About The Position

The mission of the Florida Department of Military Affairs (DMA) is to provide management oversight of the Florida National Guard and provide units and personnel ready to support national security objectives; to protect the public safety of citizens and to contribute to the national, state and community programs that add value to the United States of America and to the State of Florida.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of basic professional, full-time-equivalent experience involving electrical, plumbing, heating, air-conditioning systems, or structural and architectural systems.
  • Must be able to bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist, grasp, push and pull.
  • Must be capable of climbing a ladder and using a hi-lift to 60 feet.
  • Must have manual dexterity with hands and fingers.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50lbs. or more.
  • Ability to operate equipment to maintain and repair range grounds
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of the skilled building trades or mechanical repair work
  • Knowledge of safety procedures required in maintenance and repair work
  • Ability to perform a variety of skilled trades functions.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to install, maintain and repair electric motors, generators and other mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to take accurate measurements.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • New employees of the Department of Military Affairs will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • New employees of the Department of Military Affairs are required to participate in a direct deposit/electronic transfer program.
  • Must be able to obtain a completion of a favorable National Agency Check background investigation clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain berms, firing points, and fox holes to prevent and correct erosion.
  • Maintains range buildings to include electrical, plumbing, doors and windows.
  • Maintain ranges to include mowing, trimming, and edging around range facilities, targets and firing points.
  • Operate tractors, zero-turn mowers, heavy equipment, and utilize various power and hand tools.
  • Conducts daily checks and performs routine maintenance on equipment and power tools.
  • Supervises inmates when provided while performing incumbent’s duties.
  • Assists electrician installing circuits and panels, repairing/installing light fixtures and replacing electrical motors.
  • Uses safety lockout procedures at all times.
  • Assists plumber on plumbing repairs or installing new fixtures.
  • Performs preventative maintenance (PM) on hot water heaters.
  • Performs general carpentry repairs and alterations to including repairing or installing windows and screens.
  • Performs PM on mechanical heat and air conditioning equipment. Equipment is vacuumed, lubricated, filters changed and unit re-secured in a professional manner.
  • Complies with hazardous waste management rules and regulations in the work place.
  • Responsible for all other duties as assigned.
