About The Position

Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Plant Maintenance, the Maintenance Mechanic performs preventive and corrective maintenance throughout the community. This position helps ensure that buildings, systems, equipment, and grounds remain safe, functional, attractive, and compliant with facility standards, organizational procedures, and applicable regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least two years of physical plant, facilities, or general maintenance experience required.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, carpentry, plastering, painting, and equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to safely operate tools and equipment associated with building maintenance.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions in English.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a retirement community, senior living community, or healthcare environment is preferred.
  • A valid Georgia driver’s license and insurable driving record may be required.
  • Current CPR and/or First Aid certification may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and emergency maintenance involving HVAC systems, boilers, plumbing, electrical systems, carpentry, plastering, painting, and related equipment.
  • Inspect, operate, repair, and maintain the electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems commonly found in residential and healthcare facilities.
  • Service equipment such as lights, circuit breakers, motors, switches, alarms, fans, compressors, heaters, fire alarms, and resident call systems.
  • Repair and adjust doors, windows, closures, and locks.
  • Patch holes and repair ceiling tiles, floor tiles, and other surfaces to maintain the appearance and condition of the community.
  • Complete minor masonry and woodworking repairs.
  • Install pictures, coat hooks, wall-mounted furnishings, and equipment as requested.
  • Assist with grounds upkeep when assigned.
  • Complete assigned maintenance work orders accurately, safely, and within established timeframes.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance concerns, resident requests, and emergency situations.
  • Help maintain the safe and reliable operation of building facilities and mechanical systems.
  • Operate and maintain assigned equipment while completing required surveys, inspections, and inventories.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance activities.
  • Assist the supervisor or administrator with developing and implementing the community’s preventive maintenance plan.
  • Participate in annual apartment inspections to identify structural, mechanical, safety, or environmental concerns.
  • Work with Environmental Services, Marketing, outside vendors, and other departments to prepare apartments for incoming residents.
  • Complete repairs, installations, inspections, and maintenance tasks necessary for apartment turnover.
  • Help ensure apartments are safe, functional, attractive, and ready for occupancy within the required timeframe.
  • Perform all work in accordance with applicable building codes, safety regulations, and organizational procedures.
  • Assist with maintaining fire, safety, inspection, and maintenance records required by state and federal regulations.
  • Support state, federal, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections and provide requested documentation.
  • Maintain current knowledge of OSHA requirements and applicable state regulations related to safety, equipment, and maintenance procedures.
  • Attend required continuing education, safety courses, and training programs.
  • Follow proper safety practices when working with tools, equipment, chemicals, and potentially hazardous materials.
  • Maintain equipment service and warranty records as assigned.
  • Develop and maintain professional working relationships with contractors and outside vendors.
  • Coordinate vendor services as directed by the supervisor.
  • Purchase authorized supplies and equipment within established spending limits.
  • Respond professionally and courteously to resident maintenance concerns.
  • Provide timely and safe resolutions to maintenance and emergency requests.
  • Assist other departments during emergencies or when additional maintenance support is needed.
  • Work respectfully in residents’ homes and throughout the senior living community.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct and follow all Wesley Woods policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
