About The Position

The Maintenance Mechanic position is responsible for troubleshooting and repairing machinery and facility equipment. This role involves making repairs to machines, jigs, fixtures, and gauges, and fabricating or fitting replacement parts as needed. The mechanic will perform electrical, plumbing, heating, and roofing repairs, and must be able to read schematics and electronic blueprints. Additionally, the role requires servicing and operating rectifiers, using precision hand tools and electronic equipment, and setting up and operating various machinery such as lathes, milling machines, and welders. Preventive maintenance, including lubrication, is a key part of the job, as is carpentry and sheet metal work for fabricating and repairing various items. The St. Joseph, Missouri Dry Assembly Plant (DAP), opened in 1973, employs over 860 people and manufactures automotive and marine batteries, contributing significantly to Clarios’ global supply chain. Clarios is a global leader in energy storage solutions, developing, manufacturing, and distributing batteries while prioritizing sustainability through recycling and reusing battery materials.

Requirements

  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office and working on computerized equipment
  • Basic math, reading and writing skills
  • Able to work in a fast pace environment, multi-task, and track workload
  • Able to read and schematics and blueprints
  • Able to work overtime and weekends as needed
  • Must be able to wear required PPE (if applicable)
  • Qualified applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or a Legal Permanent Resident card holder.
  • Employees must provide and maintain personal hand tools as needed

Nice To Haves

  • A High School diploma or equivalent
  • PLC troubleshooting experience preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting and repairing machinery and facility equipment
  • Repairs machines, jigs, fixtures, gauges and fits replacement parts and/or makes replacement parts as required
  • Must be able to do electrical, plumbing, heating and roofing repairs
  • Must be able to read schematics and electronic blueprints
  • Must be capable of servicing and operating rectifiers
  • Must be capable of operating precision hand tools and electronic equipment
  • Adjusts machines for production when adjustment is beyond the scope of operator
  • Maintains and installs piping, fittings, valves, gauges and all types of controls for hydraulic systems, gas and air lines
  • Requires ability to set up and operate lathe, milling machine, drill press, grinder, power saws, welder, etc.
  • Makes periodic checks of machines and equipment and performs preventive maintenance as required; i.e. oils, greases, etc.
  • Performs carpentry and sheet metal work in fabricating and repairing benches, guards, boxes, trays, etc.
