About The Position

Smithfield is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic for the 2nd Shift. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth and safe operation of our plant. As a Maintenance Mechanic, you will be responsible for general maintenance, hydraulic systems, electrical & electronic systems, and basic welding. You will play a key role in ensuring our plant operates efficiently and safely by performing preventive maintenance, repairing machinery, and maintaining the physical structure of the plant. Safety is paramount, and you will be expected to follow all company safety protocols, including LOCKOUT/TAGOUT procedures, and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 1+ years of related experience and/or training in an industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing environment; or 4 years’ direct experience in an industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing maintenance environment.
  • Ability to function effectively in a team environment and interact productively with all levels of team personnel and outside contractors.
  • Ability to operate a forklift, genie lift or scissor lift or other powered industrial trucks (PIT).
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to read and execute work orders, write daily reports, and translate equipment manuals.
  • Expertise in General Maintenance, Hydraulic Systems, Electrical & Electronic Systems, and basic welding.

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational Diploma, Technical Diploma or associate degree from a technical maintenance or vocational school.

Responsibilities

  • Complete daily preventive maintenance (PM) tasks on schedule.
  • Maintain production lines in top mechanical condition to minimize downtime.
  • Set up, visually inspect, and test machinery to ensure proper operation.
  • Diagnose and resolve machinery malfunctions.
  • Dismantle malfunctioning machinery, replace or repair faulty parts.
  • Clean, lubricate, and maintain key machinery components.
  • Assist production and quality teams with troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Follow all company safety protocols, including LOCKOUT/TAGOUT procedures.
  • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Repair and maintain the physical structure of the plant.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
