About The Position

Performs semi-skilled to skilled maintenance on various mechanical, electrical, and carpentry projects. This role involves service work on systems such as a/c units, heaters, plumbing, light refrigeration, and electrical systems. It also includes preventative maintenance tasks like checking lights and doors, changing filters, and inspecting equipment for potential problems and repairs. The position also entails moving and storing furniture and equipment, performing miscellaneous yard work, painting, minor plumbing repairs, and snow removal. The employee will operate required vehicles safely to perform duties and may be cross-trained at all Mercy Medical Center Facilities. Marginal functions include assisting contractors and having computer/data entry knowledge.

Requirements

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Two (2) years of experience in preventative maintenance and service work.
Valid Driver's/Chauffeur License required.
Must meet Mercy's Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be eligible to drive per Iowa state law.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to speak effectively to employees or before groups.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Read, write, and speak English.
Ability to perform tasks requiring constant reaching, grasping, repetitive motion, standing, pushing/pulling.
Ability to perform tasks requiring frequent kneeling, walking, carrying tools and equipment, lifting, climbing, driving, stooping, and handling.
Ability to perform tasks requiring occasional feeling, talking, and hearing.
Ability to meet physical demands including exerting up to 65 lbs. push/pull, lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally, lifting up to 40 lbs. frequently, and lifting up to 20 lbs. constantly.
Ability to maintain a high standard of courtesy and cooperation.
Ability to adapt to accepting responsibility for direction, control, or planning.
Ability to adapt to making generalizations, evaluations, or decisions based on measurable or verifiable criteria.
Ability to adapt to performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.
Ability to perform visual acuity tasks such as taking measurements, assembly parts, and inspecting work.
