About The Position

The Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) works in partnership with local communities to support people with developmental disabilities in living, learning, and working in their communities. APD provides critical services and support for customers with developmental disabilities to reach their full potential. The Agency serves people with spina bifida, autism, Down syndrome, children ages 3-5 at high risk of developmental disabilities, cerebral palsy, Prader-Willi syndrome, Phelan-McDermid syndrome, and intellectual disabilities. There is no charge or co-payment for services provided through the Agency. Requirements

  • A valid Florida Driver’s License.
  • If hired with an out-of-state license a valid Florida State driver’s license must be obtained within 30 days.
  • Corrective Lenses Restricted license are acceptable provided the driver wears the corrective lenses while operating a state vehicle.
  • Must be willing to perform essential services before, during, and after an emergency.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs with or without accommodations.
  • Must obtain and maintain certification in EPA 608 within 12 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of skilled mechanical repair work.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures that are required in maintenance and repair work.
  • Knowledge of determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
  • Knowledge of conducting tests to determine whether equipment or software is operating as expected.
  • Knowledge of controlling operations of equipment or systems.
  • Knowledge of watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems operation, troubleshooting, and repair, i.e., chillers, boilers ahu’s, variable frequency drives, variable air volume systems, pumps, and motors.
  • Knowledge of procedures and methods for installing, repairing, and maintaining HVAC systems, refrigeration, and air-conditioning units and component parts.
  • Ability to install, maintain, and repair freezers, coolers, chillers, condensers, air handlers, washers, dryers, and window units.
  • Ability to perform a variety of skilled trades functions.
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematic drawings.
  • Ability to operate, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical systems, i.e., chillers, boilers, ahu’s, variable frequency drives and air volume systems, pumps, and motors.
  • Ability to identify and repair electronic malfunctions in electronic equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow written or verbal technical instructions relating to the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic equipment, and maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Demonstrates skill and has the ability to use tools and equipment in maintenance and repair work.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain and repair pump motors, air handler motors and valve motors.
  • Read schematic and wiring diagrams to trace electric control circuits for bad components and trouble shoot for fault in them.
  • Test relays, start and run capacitors.
  • Replace blower belts.
  • Clean and maintain air handler units and closets, air vents, duct work, and coils.
  • Change air filters.
  • Measure and install copper and iron pipe by threading, solder, or Pro-Press.
  • Insulate and mastic pies.
  • Install ductwork.
  • Clean, paint, and/or install vents.
  • Repair and maintain washers, dryers, stoves, refrigerators, sanitizers, microwaves, and other small appliances.
  • Assists with the repair, install, and perform maintenance of A/C and refrigeration systems – e.g., heat pumps, DX systems, mini-splits, window units, stand-alone refrigerators and freezers, walk-in refrigerators and freezers, and chillers.
  • Maintain and repair water, steam generating, and condensing boilers.
  • Work with the chemical company representatives to maintain proper boiler water to chemical composition.
  • Work with boiler inspector to ensure boilers are operated in a safe manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and standards.
  • Assists with relocation of residents’ belongings as needed, and movement of any furniture/equipment at Tacachale.
