About The Position

The Maintenance Mechanic performs general and preventative maintenance both inside and outside the facility. This role involves repairing and maintaining various equipment according to operational manuals and safety standards, including kitchen equipment, emergency generators, air conditioning, and plumbing. The mechanic is also responsible for ensuring the safety of beds, wheelchairs, and furniture, maintaining repair logs, managing inventory, and assisting with facility operations and resident interactions.

Requirements

  • Two to three years facilities experience.
  • Must be able to do heavy lifting.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required to interact with all levels in the organization.
  • Must have compassion for the geriatric population.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills to work independently and to be able to prioritize.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional training beyond high school beneficial.
  • Computer skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs general and preventative maintenance inside and outside the facility.
  • Repairs and maintains equipment including periodic filter changes, lubricating, adjustments, repairing kitchen equipment, emergency generators and air conditioning equipment, in accordance with operational manuals and meeting safety standards and regulations.
  • Repairs and maintains plumbing equipment as needed such as drains, pumps and valves, etc., assuring proper working order.
  • Periodically checks and repairs all beds, wheelchairs and furniture for safety.
  • Maintains equipment repair log.
  • Performs other duties as directed and as needed.
  • Performs work orders as soon as possible meeting quality standards.
  • Maintains inventory supplies, handing out per requests and maintaining a running inventory total.
  • Stocks supplies as they come in, keeping area in a neat and orderly fashion.
  • Assists in fire drills when asked, following protocol as required by the State.
  • Reports any problems that may arise.
  • Attends all staff, in-service, training and mandatory meetings as required by the department and Waveny LifeCare Network.
  • Always maintains a neat and clean appearance as established by the department.
  • Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and a positive and calm environment throughout the facility.
  • Protects the confidentiality of resident information at all times by not discussing any resident’s condition unless it is in the best interest of the resident as observed by the Administrator.
  • Shows consideration by acknowledging residents promptly and using words that express respect and understanding.
  • Assists visitors with directions or information offering help in a courteous manner as observed by the Administrator.
  • Respects follow workers working as a team player with peers and other employees from other departments.
  • Adheres to proper dress code representing Waveny LifeCare Network with a neat, professional appearance.
