About The Position
We need dedicated team members to join us to keep the construction, operations, maintenance and infrastructure of the UMBC campus running smoothly so our students, faculty and staff can continue our mission of striving for excellence. Our staff maintains 70 university buildings on 512 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds. Join our team of dedicated skills trades staff members! Seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to inspect and repair campus lighting systems in line with electrical codes and safety standards. This role also guides maintenance assistants and handles minor facility repairs.
Requirements
- Three years related work experience
- Class "C" driver's license valid in the State of Maryland

- Electrical Safety Training (NFPA 70E – Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace)
Responsibilities
- Performs routine inspections and preventive maintenance of electrical lighting systems, ensuring proper operation of fixtures, ballasts, and bulbs.
- Troubleshoots and replaces defective lighting components, including ballasts, sockets, and LED drivers, ensuring compliance with electrical codes.
- Maintains accurate records of repairs, maintenance activities, and parts used in work orders.
- Ensures compliance with safety protocols, including proper handling and disposal of electrical waste and hazardous materials.
- Provides guidance and instruction to maintenance assistants and ensures adherence to established maintenance schedules.
- Performs other maintenance-related duties as assigned, including minor repairs to facility infrastructure such as doors, locks, and fixtures.
