About The Position

SCN BestCo is seeking a Utilities Maintenance Mechanic to support plant and production operations. The role responds to production breakdowns, performs machining and equipment repairs, installs processing equipment and piping, and carries out preventive maintenance. It requires mechanical troubleshooting, basic electrical, welding, and pipe-fitting skills, familiarity with precision instruments and tools, and the ability to follow lockout/tagout procedures. The position is on D shift, working 12-hour nights, with overtime available.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
At least 3 years of maintenance experience.
Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills, with basic electrical, welding, and pipe-fitting skills.
Technical understanding.
Good analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Good writing, reading, and math skills.
Ability to communicate clearly and accurately with peers, managers, and production staff.
Knowledge of the strengths and mechanical properties of materials.
Ability to use common precision measuring instruments, gauges, and hand tools.
Must supply a quality set of standard and metric mechanic’s tools.
Understanding of proper lubrication techniques.
Ability to work accurately within machine-specified tolerances.
Ability to deal with uncertainty.
Basic computer and email skills.
Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work flexible hours, overtime, and shifts, including second, third, or 12-hour shifts.

Nice To Haves

NCMI graduate.

Responsibilities

Respond rapidly to production breakdowns with a strong sense of urgency.
Lay out and perform complex machining operations on replacement parts using lathes, milling machines, drills, and surface grinders.
Interpret blueprints, sketches, and other specifications.
Diagnose machine faults, determine necessary repairs, and strip and reassemble equipment.
Install plant processing equipment, including copper, stainless steel, plastic, and iron pipefitting.
Troubleshoot and repair vacuum, centrifugal, diaphragm, gear, and reciprocating pumps.
Inspect plant equipment and machinery for proper lubrication and perform other preventive maintenance.
Weld metal objects using TIG, oxyacetylene, brazing, or arc-welding apparatus.
Perform simple adjustments, repairs, or replacements on motors, controls, and electrical equipment.
Follow SCN BestCo’s LOTO policy and procedures to isolate equipment from hazardous energy before relevant cleaning, service, or maintenance activities.
Learn the operating and maintenance requirements of all production machines and equipment.
