About The Position

Works under general supervision to perform various repair and maintenance work and perform other generalized duties in the operations of county facilities.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience as a maintenance mechanic
  • High school diploma or possess a GED.
  • Must possess a valid Tennessee driver license or secure one by date of employment.
  • Must have daily access to a personal operable automobile and meet county requirements for automobile insurance upon date of employment.
  • Must pass a physical examination.
  • Advanced knowledge of common practices; methods; and materials for maintenance of buildings and construction work.
  • Ability to work with people.
  • Ability to complete reports and requisitions.
  • Knowledge of wood and metal tools and instruments and their maintenance and use.
  • Knowledge of the practices; methods, tools, and materials required for the maintenance of mechanical equipment.
  • Knowledge of plumbing and ability to clean clogged drains and shut off water supply using plumber tools.
  • Ability to read and work with blueprints.

Responsibilities

  • Performs various general maintenance and/or mechanical duties as they relate to the specific position.
  • Replaces defective electrical switches and other fixtures.
  • Paints walls, floors, woodwork, and fixtures of buildings using spray guns and brushes.
  • Repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and open clogged drains using plumber's tools.
  • Replaces and repairs brick and plaster walls.
  • Keeps records and makes reports.
  • Makes minor plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and carpentry repairs.
  • Makes or repairs counters; benches; partitions; etc. using appropriate tools.
  • Assists higher skilled maintenance personnel.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
