About The Position

The Maintenance Mechanic installs, maintains, diagnoses, and repairs equipment and instrumentation used to unload, load, transfer, and store cargo. Equipment includes conveying equipment, gearboxes, ship loaders, and other support equipment. The role performs preventive maintenance, inspections, equipment operation, documentation, and safety-related work while complying with company standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements. The position requires five years of prior industrial maintenance experience and a high school diploma or equivalent. The mechanic must be able to work all shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed; respond to assigned call-outs; and work rotating shifts. The schedule is described as a four-day, 10-hour work week. Physical requirements include working at heights up to 130 feet and lifting up to 50 pounds, as well as working in dusty environments and varying weather and temperature conditions.

Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent.
Five years of prior industrial maintenance experience.
Mechanical aptitude and experience related to small engines, electric motors, pumps, and hydraulics are preferred.
Basic knowledge of general materials-moving equipment.
Experience with welding, diesel engine repair, hydraulic troubleshooting, and electrical troubleshooting.
Able to work all shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed, and be available for assigned call-outs.
Ability to attain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, and decimals.
Ability to accept supervision and direction and work effectively and cooperatively with others.
Ability to communicate over a company-provided mobile radio.
Ability to operate and maintain equipment safely at all times.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and maintain necessary records.
Successful completion of a background check.
Ability to maintain regular, dependable attendance.
Must meet fit-for-duty requirements upon job offer, including a pre-employment physical and drug test.
Ability to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb ladders and stairs, and negotiate uneven and moving surfaces.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work at protected heights up to 130 feet.
Vision abilities including close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Ability to work in dusty environments and all types of temperature and weather conditions.
Ability to work rotating shifts and adjust to changing shifts that may require early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Nice To Haves

Mechanical aptitude and experience related to small engines, electric motors, pumps, and hydraulics.

Responsibilities

Diagnose and repair equipment used to unload, load, transfer, and store cargo.
Work from blueprints, schematics, or verbal instructions.
Perform preventive maintenance on terminal equipment.
Complete work safely and in a timely manner, in compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
Monitor Port equipment status and enter maintenance work requests in Dynamics AX (the Drax Maintenance System), or write operational orders for equipment cleaning or operating changes.
Safely operate equipment related to cargo movement and transportation according to customer needs and requirements.
Perform routine inspections on assigned equipment and report findings according to policy and procedures.
Accurately document information supporting operations, including cargo receiving, shipping, and storage.
Accurately document maintenance inspections and safety-related reports.
Participate in and successfully complete required training and related testing.
Identify, report, and correct safety and environmental concerns.
Perform work in compliance with company standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Perform other terminal functions as trained, requested, and instructed by supervision.
