About The Position

DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital is DMC’s largest hospital, offering a comprehensive heart center, cancer care, gerontology, emergency medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, and cosmetic services. Its joint replacement program features minimally invasive knee and hip replacement surgery. Sinai-Grace operates more than 21 outpatient care sites and ambulatory surgery centers throughout Wayne and Oakland Counties and has received a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant to help set national standards for cardiac care.

Under general supervision and according to policies and procedures, the Maintenance Mechanic repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturers’ specifications. Equipment may include engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines and equipment. The role uses hand and power tools, as well as precision-measuring and testing instruments.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certificate in Pneumatics and Hydraulics or equivalent, a combination of equivalent experience, or a related associate degree.
• One to two years of experience in industrial repair work.

Nice To Haves

• Motor control experience.
• Pneumatic and DDC controls experience.
• Machine control computer programming experience.

Responsibilities

• Repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment according to diagrams, sketches, operating manuals, and manufacturers’ specifications.
• Observe mechanical devices in operation and listen for sounds to identify causes of trouble.
• Dismantle devices to access and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools.
• Inspect used parts and determine dimensional changes using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
• Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
• Repair or replace defective parts and install special functional and structural parts in devices.
• May set up and operate a lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make or repair parts.
• May initiate purchase orders for parts and machines.
