About The Position

The Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is seeking a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC to maintain and perform minor repairs of the facility’s electrical and mechanical equipment in compliance with DJJ Detention Service Manual. This role involves performing routine checks on heating, air conditioning, audio, fire safety, and laundry equipment, and monitoring repairs to ensure efficient operational conditions. The position also includes installing, maintaining, and performing minor repairs to plumbing fixtures such as sinks, wash bowls, and sewers. Additionally, the mechanic will perform routine checks on motor vehicles to ensure safe operating condition and conduct minor repairs. This position must comply with the Florida Statutes, Prompt Payment Compliance Law, and perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Valid Drivers’ License
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide rational numbers.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain reports and records.
  • Ability to effectively work with youth, co-workers, supervisors and the public.
  • Knowledge of good housekeeping tasks relative to maintaining the sanitary conditions of the facility.
  • Knowledge of the Department and facility policies and procedures.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions in a timely manner.
  • Vocational/technical training in mechanical repair or one of the building trades.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, plumbing, or electrical or mechanical equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and performs minor repairs of the facility’s electrical and mechanical equipment in compliance with DJJ Detention Service Manual.
  • Performs routine checks on heating air conditioning, audio, fire safety and laundry equipment and monitors repairs of this equipment to ensure efficient operational conditions.
  • Installs, maintains and do minor repairs to plumbing fixtures: sinks, wash bowls, sewers, valves, etc.
  • Performs routine checks to ensure motor vehicles are in safe operating condition and to do minor repairs of these vehicles.
  • Complies with the requirements set forth in Section 215.422, Florida Statutes, Prompt Payment Compliance Law.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
