About The Position

The purpose of this position is to perform skilled and semi-skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical, HVAC, hydraulic, and some electrical and plumbing systems and equipment; to perform general carpentry and minor building construction and renovation work; to provide leadership of subordinate mechanics as assigned, and to perform related work as required. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed, and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor and General Manager of Maintenance.

Requirements

  • Requires high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by formal training, special courses or self-education that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education or specialized advanced training in mechanical maintenance or a closely related field.
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
  • Requires over three years of experience in a maintenance or trade-related field, complemented by technical training.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, maintains and repairs various mechanical systems and equipment, including but not limited to overhead doors and windows, appliances, locking mechanisms, fencing and automatic gates, and general mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Inspects and repairs some aspects of HVAC and refrigeration equipment in designated County buildings and facilities.
  • Performs some plumbing and electrical maintenance and repair work as necessary.
  • Performs preventive maintenance tasks as scheduled.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses routine equipment and system problems; schedules and performs routine repair work or parts replacement.
  • Performs general carpentry work for building construction / renovation as required; repairs furnishings as needed.
  • Repairs roofing.
  • Provides training, leadership, advice and assistance to co-workers as needed; ensures that all work orders are completed correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Assists supervisor in planning and coordinating major installation and maintenance projects as requested.
  • Maintains assigned tools and equipment.
  • Maintains accurate records on maintenance/repair work completed by utilizing the department’s computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Performs all work in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, regulations and standards of safety and quality; ensures the timely completion of all assignments.
  • Attends training, workshops, meetings, etc., as necessary to enhance job knowledge and skills.
