About The Position

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for repairing equipment at the generation site, including pumps and motors. This role also involves performing fabrication and welding as needed. The position requires performing routine, breakdown, and preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment and systems related to the power generation facility. A strong emphasis is placed on maintaining a culture of safety, supporting safety programs, completing appropriate training, and ensuring safe working conditions and practices. Additionally, the role involves fostering a culture of continuous improvement by utilizing lean principles and other tools to maximize departmental efficiency. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Three years of power plant maintenance experience or other industrial mechanical maintenance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and safe working practices of all-position arc welding and gas cutting operations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with all audiences, including customers.
  • Excellent interpersonal and listening skills, with ability to build productive professional relationships and promote a team atmosphere.
  • Proficiency with use of computers and mobile apps, including email, calendar, Internet browsers, and the Microsoft Office suite of products at a basic level.
  • Good problem identification, analysis, and solving skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, either as team leader or a member of a team.
  • Ability to drive results and ensure work is accomplished properly, safely, and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work independently, effectively prioritize work, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and adjust work priorities as needed to meet department/organizational objectives.
  • Must have high degree of mechanical aptitude and be comfortable working with power tools.
  • Ability to develop, read, and interpret drawings, schematics, specifications, and technical manuals.
  • Ability to distinguish colors.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must comply with the Utility's Respiratory Protection Program.
  • Must be able to attend work on a regular basis and work overtime as needed.
  • Must maintain a method of communication in order to be contacted by MPW outside normal work hours.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine, breakdown and preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment and systems related to the power generation facility.
  • Perform fabrication and welding when needed.
  • Maintain a culture of safety within the department.
  • Support the Utility's safety programs, complete training appropriate for the position, and provide safe working conditions and practices.
  • Maintain a culture of continuous improvement within the department.
  • Utilize lean principles and other continuous improvement tools in an effort to maximize the efficiency of the department.
  • Other duties as assigned.
