About The Position

This role is responsible for providing a wide range of facilities/laboratory units maintenance, security, safety, customer support, transportation, and support services to enable efficient, flawless, and safe operations across the site. The Maintenance Mechanic acts as a first point of contact for service inquiries, technical issues, and incidents, applying knowledge and experience to resolve problems directly or escalate as appropriate. They are responsible for responding to and documenting facilities, safety, security, and business-critical alarms, incidents, and emergencies, assuming operational control if necessary and liaising with internal and external collaborators. The role involves conducting routine and ad-hoc inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs to various site assets, ensuring compliance with standards. Additionally, the Maintenance Mechanic supports business teams through logistical activities, manages vendor performance, prepares reports, and advocates for health, safety, security, and environmental standards. They also share knowledge with colleagues, participate in business change initiatives, and leverage lean process improvement principles and digital solutions to optimize outcomes and identify opportunities for improvement.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (vocational/technical qualifications, degree, or relevant experience for specialized areas)
  • 1-3 years relevant experience in one or more of: facilities operations, maintenance, safety/security, customer service, transportation, or technical services
  • Valid driving license for site transport/vehicle operations where required
  • Good knowledge of safe driving and logistical practices
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team
  • Sound troubleshooting, decision-making, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize efficiently
  • Good computer literacy and experience using relevant digital systems/tools

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in facilities, security, customer service, similar operational support role
  • Degree-level qualification or professional certification in a related field (e.g. Facilities, Safety, Security, Transport, Customer Service)
  • Project management experience or qualifications
  • Prior experience delivering customer service or technical services in regulated/research/business environments
  • Familiarity with financial and vendor management processes
  • Experience supporting process improvement or change management initiatives

Responsibilities

  • Provide a wide range of facilities/laboratory units maintenance, security, safety, customer support, transportation, and support services to enable efficient, flawless, and safe operations across the site.
  • Act as a first point of contact for service inquiries, technical issues, and incidents, applying knowledge and experience to resolve problems directly or escalate as appropriate.
  • Respond and documents facilities, safety, security, and business-critical alarms, incidents, and emergencies, assuming operational control if necessary and liaising with internal and external collaborators (including emergency services).
  • Conduct routine and ad-hoc inspections, preventative maintenance, and repair to offices, laboratories, technical areas, vehicles, and site infrastructure, ensuring full compliance with applicable internal and external standards.
  • Support business teams through logistical activities such as office moves, meeting support, transport arrangements, and delivery of safe and efficient personnel or materials transportation as the need arises.
  • Prioritize, track, and analyze vendor, contractor, and service provider performance and efficiency, reporting relevant data and insights for business case development and operational improvement.
  • Prepare, analyze, and present reports relating to facilities performance, incident management, maintenance, compliance, and customer satisfaction to inform management decisions and drive continuous improvement.
  • Adhere to and advocate for consistent health, safety, security, environmental, and good practice standards, maintaining up-to-date knowledge and promoting compliance within the team.
  • Share technical, procedural, and safety knowledge with colleagues and supports the onboarding and informal training of new/junior staff.
  • Actively participate in business change initiatives, contribute to project activity, and adapt to new systems, technology, and process enhancements as required.
  • Leverage lean process improvement principles to optimize outcomes within own area.
  • Identify ways to implement digital solutions that improve performance and efficiency.
  • Proactively identify and propose opportunities for improvement to address risk and improve sustainability initiatives.
