About The Position

The area mechanic is responsible for the preventive and corrective maintenance of production equipment in assigned areas. This includes equipment in the Press Area (flexographic presses, slitters), Finishing Area (bag machines, powdering equipment), and Extrusion (extruders, EBCU treaters, blending equipment). The role involves all types of mechanical maintenance, including piping, sheet metal, and minor electrical work. Mechanics are required to use various hand tools, power tools, and test equipment, and work on compressed air lines and equipment instrumentation. They will also assist other mechanics, perform clean-up, and conduct annual machine overhauls. Welding and fabrication of metal machine guards from blueprints, sketches, or verbal instructions are also key responsibilities. The position requires the ability to read and understand blueprints and technical drawings, perform gas, mig, and tig welding, follow instructions, write legibly, and record complete work in log books. Safe work practices, Good Manufacturing Practices, and Food Safety protocols must be maintained. The role also includes providing training on new and existing equipment.

Requirements

  • Must provide own personal hand tools.
  • Not be sensitive to powder or solvents.
  • Complete 21 Home Study Courses in appropriate time.
  • Willing to work overtime as needed.
  • Must be able to wear hearing protection, steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, FR clothing, and gloves.
  • Must be able to work in dusty, dirty, hot, or wet conditions, or in confined areas, or other uncomfortable places.
  • Must have good vision, either naturally or corrected, be able to see subtle color differences and details in order to check electrical wire colors, warning labels, and components.
  • Frequent reading and writing in order to check mechanical prints, complete work order tickets, perform LOTO procedure, and insure compliance with procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance of production equipment in assigned areas (Press, Finishing, Extrusion).
  • Conduct all maintenance of a mechanical nature, including piping, sheet metal, and minor electrical work (e.g., replacing fuses, sealing heaters, pilot lights, plug-in modules).
  • Use common hand tools, power tools, and test equipment such as a continuity tester and volt-ammeter.
  • Work on compressed air lines and equipment instrumentation.
  • Assist other mechanics as directed.
  • Responsible for clean-up after assignments are completed.
  • Perform all mechanical work necessary for annual machine overhauls.
  • Perform welding and fabrication of metal machine guards from blueprints, sketches, and/or verbal instructions.
  • Perform all gas, mig, and tig welding and fabrication.
  • Read and understand blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Read and follow instructions.
  • Write or print legibly.
  • Record complete work in log books on equipment.
  • Maintain safe work practices.
  • Provide training on new and existing equipment.
  • Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Maintain respective role in Food Safety.
