About The Position

Haydon is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic for their 2nd Shift position. This role involves maintaining and troubleshooting industrial machinery. The ideal candidate will diagnose and repair mechanical problems, communicate effectively with leadership, inspect various types of equipment, and perform preventive maintenance. This position requires a commitment to safety, adherence to regulations, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The role also involves general building maintenance, assisting with troubleshooting Human Machine Interface (HMI), operating material handling equipment, and maintaining a clean work area according to 5S principles. The Maintenance Mechanic will also support continuous improvement activities and provide on-the-job training to other team members.

Requirements

  • Commitment to safety and adherence to all safety rules.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and adherence to applicable safety protocols.
  • 6+ years of repairing/maintaining manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience specifically with presses and mills.
  • Experience with welding and making minor repairs and/or adjustments.
  • Comprehension of single and 3 phase power requirements.
  • Comprehension of machinery electrical requirements.
  • Comprehension and experience with hydraulic systems including maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), basic understanding of function and operation.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and ensure accuracy.
  • Demonstrates ability to work in a team, treat colleagues with respect, and has a high level of accountability/punctuality.
  • Proven record of strong attendance.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to read and write.
  • Must have basic computer skills and be proficient in Microsoft software (i.e. Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25-50 lbs. and must be able to co-lift up to 50-100 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical problems.
  • Communicate daily with direct supervisor and maintenance leadership regarding assignments and machine statuses.
  • Provide regular and consistent updates on machine conditions, maintenance progress, and any issues impacting production.
  • Inspect A/C motors, gearboxes, presses, resistance welders, and other roll forming equipment.
  • Support changeover process for welders, mills, secondary punch machines, and specifically to California rooftop press.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on machines.
  • Suggest improvements and enhancements to the preventive maintenance schedule for machines.
  • Provide timely updates on scheduled preventive maintenance activities to avoid major downtime.
  • Replace worn parts and fluids as needed.
  • Test and adjust components to ensure proper operation.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs and maintenance.
  • Identify critical spares and consumable parts that need to be purchased.
  • Conduct regular inspections of machines, following standard operating procedures (SOP), and instructions.
  • Consult manuals and seek clarification when necessary to ensure proper operation and maintenance of machines.
  • Continuously monitor production line efficiency and promptly engage with operations and production teams to address and resolve issues.
  • Respond promptly to requests and inquiries from maintenance leadership regarding production lines and any issues.
  • Ensure timely communication to prevent misunderstandings and minimize machine downtime.
  • Prepare and provide reports and updates as required by leadership and management, sharing insights on machine performance and maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with leadership to understand and execute assignments aligning with skillset and expertise, reporting on progress.
  • Perform general maintenance work on buildings as assigned.
  • Assist and help with troubleshooting Human Machine Interface (HMI).
  • Operate material handling equipment including propane forklifts.
  • Maintain cleanliness of area according to 5S principles.
  • Support and provide input for continuous improvement activities.
  • Support with on-the-job training for other team members of the maintenance team.
  • Act as a team player within the maintenance team, offering support, guidance, and assistance to colleagues.
  • Support in all areas as needed and requested by supervisor or another member of the management team.
