The Maintenance Mechanic/Welder will support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of a chemical batch manufacturing plant by performing mechanical maintenance, welding/fabrication, and equipment troubleshooting. This role ensures compliance with safety, quality, and environmental requirements while minimizing downtime and maintaining production continuity.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and related trade school or military training
  • AWS certifications in weld proficiency
  • 4 - 6 years of job experience
  • Proficiency in TIG, MIG, Stick welding
  • Pipe fitting skills
  • Blueprint reading skills
  • Weld inspection skills
  • Familiarity with hot work permitting, confined space entry, and hazardous materials handling
  • Basic CMMS usage for work order documentation (e.g., SAP PM)

Responsibilities

  • Performs welding activities in accordance with ASME, AWS, and site-specific standards.
  • Follows all safety protocols including hot work permits, PPE, and confined space entry.
  • Welds carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy piping using SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW processes.
  • Conducts weld repairs and ensures compliance with plant welding standards.
  • Fabricates and installs pipe spools, supports, and structural components according to P&IDs and isometric drawings.
  • Performs pipe fitting, cutting, beveling, threading, and layout work.
  • Fabricates and repairs piping, vessels, structural supports, and equipment components using appropriate welding techniques (e.g., TIG, MIG, Stick).
  • Conducts visual and dimensional inspections to verify weld integrity and fit-up.
  • Executes welding tasks as part of planned maintenance and emergency repairs.
  • Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs pumps, compressors, gearboxes, valves, agitators, and rotating equipment.
  • Performs preventive and predictive maintenance on mechanical systems.
  • Installs, aligns, and rebuilds mechanical components using precision tools.
  • Completes weld logs, inspection records, and job documentation as by site protocols and regulatory standards.
  • Documents maintenance work orders and equipment history in the CMMS (e.g., SAP PM) following site requirements.
  • Maintains certification records and ensures qualifications are current.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve weld techniques, material selection, and fabrication methods.
  • Participates in root cause analysis and reliability improvement initiatives.
  • Supports equipment changeouts, shutdowns, and turnarounds to improve long-term reliability.
  • Assists with equipment changeouts, shutdowns, and turnarounds.
  • Coordinates with planners and operations to execute work safely and efficiently while minimizing downtime.
