Maintenance Mechanic (Refrigeration Specialist)
About The Position
This role is responsible for testing, troubleshooting, planning, repairing, installing, modifying, evaluating, and maintaining various refrigeration and air conditioning equipment and systems. This includes equipment found in blood banks, kitchens, and on nursing floors, as well as ice machines and small air conditioner units (0-5 tons). The position requires adherence to current engineering practices and relevant codes (City, State, Federal, JCAHO) for installation and repair. A key aspect of the role involves performing preventive maintenance, safety checks, and inspections according to departmental and hospital guidelines, ensuring timely repairs. Additionally, the mechanic must ensure all ice machines meet infection control standards through cleaning, inspection, and testing. The position also involves maintaining departmental policies, quality assurance (including Federal CFC requirements), and safety standards, participating in educational programs, and assisting other maintenance personnel as needed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Vocational Training.
- Mass Refrigeration and Technicians License.
- Minimum of Type 2 EPA Certification.
Responsibilities
- Tests, troubleshoots, plans, repairs, installs, modifies, evaluates, and maintains refrigerators, ice machines, small air conditioner equipment and systems (e.g., Blood Bank, Kitchen, Nursing Floors refrigerators, Ice machines and small (0-5) ton air conditioner units or systems).
- Applies current engineering practices, City, State, Federal and JCAHO codes to develop, install and correct malfunctions in equipment and systems (kitchen, ice machines, lab, nursing floor air conditioner units).
- Performs preventive maintenance, safety checks and inspects equipment and systems in accordance with department and Hospital guidelines and procedures.
- Ensures that all ice machines are clean, inspected and tested to meet infection controls procedures.
- Maintains established departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance (Federal CFC requirements) and safety.
- Participates in educational programs and inservice meetings.
- Assists other Plant & Maintenance personnel and performs other work related duties as requested or assigned.
