About The Position

BorgWarner Ithaca is seeking a qualified Mechanic (Millwright) to join their maintenance team. This role involves performing maintenance operations such as moving, rearranging, installing, and repairing facilities and utilities throughout the complex. The position requires installing, maintaining, and repairing plant pipe systems and related equipment, building equipment, and plant facilities. Responsibilities include preparing footings and bases for machines, dismantling and moving equipment, devising special handling and rigging techniques, and performing general sheet metal work. The role also involves operating various welding, brazing, soldering, cutting, and power equipment, as well as fabricating miscellaneous equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Expensive Machine Troubleshooting Experience
  • Proficient gas welding experience
  • Solid Understanding of High Voltage Applications

Nice To Haves

  • Journeyman Mechanic (Millwright) (NY State Certified Program) Preferred
  • 2+ years Industrial HVAC Experience
  • 2 year trade school program completion
  • Rigging experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance operations such as moving, rearranging, installing and repairing facilities and utilities throughout the complex.
  • Install, maintain and repair plant pipe systems and related equipment (i.e., steam, air, water, gas hydraulic system).
  • Install, maintain and repair building equipment (i.e., structural steel, iron rails, fireproof doors, door checks and locks).
  • Install, maintain and repair plant facilities (i.e., boilers, engines, steam heating plants, oil burners and compressors).
  • Prepare footings and bases for machines equipment and partition installations.
  • Dismantle and move equipment from one location to another or for shipment from the plant as required.
  • Devise special handling and rigging techniques to prevent damage.
  • Perform general sheet metal work.
  • Operate a variety of electric and gas welding, brazing, soldering, induction, resistance and flames cutting hand and power operated equipment.
  • Fabrication of various tables, pans, guards, skids and other miscellaneous equipment.
  • Acquire drawings, specifications, tools and equipment, and materials as required by assignment.
  • Use extensive skills of the mechanic trades with the application of electric circuitry and appropriate soft wiring procedures.
  • Display the highest application of mechanical knowledge of how/why mechanical equipment works.
  • Perform sophisticated diagnostic and repair activities on complex mechanical, machinery systems.
  • Understand sophisticated technical graphical representation including computer operator interface panels with graphic displays.
  • Complete computations involving trigonometry and other mathematical methods.
  • Engage in significant decisions based on established guidelines including relationships usually involve discussion with collaborators.
  • Enforce to Global Star Safety Program, including safety rules, practices and training as outlined in the BorgWarner Safety Policy.
  • Work in manners that stress the importance of preventing accidents and illnesses.
  • Take every precaution reasonable in the given circumstance for the protection of themselves and coworkers.
  • Report all injuries and/or possible dangerous situations, incidents, or occurrences to the immediate supervisor.
