Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Completion of a millwright apprenticeship program or equivalent technical training, with a focus on rigging.

Nice To Haves

  • In compliance with the collective bargaining agreement, priority consideration is given to candidates who are INTERNAL (and recall) to the Pratt & Whitney IAM Bargaining Unit members of District Lodge 26 and Affiliated Locals 700 and 1746 (Connecticut Operations).
  • Certifications in rigging and hoisting (e.g., NCCCO Rigger Certification) are highly preferred.
  • Experience with welding and fabrication is a plus.
  • Extensive experience in rigging and heavy machinery installation.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical blueprints, rigging plans, and load charts.
  • Strong understanding of load calculations, weight distribution, and equipment capacity limits.
  • Ability to operate and inspect rigging tools and heavy equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard rigging practices and applicable safety regulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail for safe and precise equipment handling.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills to coordinate with other tradespeople and supervisors.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex mechanical problems.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute rigging operations for safe lifting, moving, and installation of heavy machinery and equipment.
  • Select and inspect rigging equipment, including slings, chains, shackles, hoists, and cranes, to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Safely operate rigging tools and machinery, such as cranes, winches, and forklifts, to position equipment with precision.
  • Align and level machinery after installation to meet operational specifications and ensure functionality.
  • Dismantle and relocate machinery and equipment as needed, ensuring all components remain intact and undamaged.
  • Inspect rigging setups during and after operations to confirm stability and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on rigging equipment and machinery.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and guidelines, ensuring the safety of personnel and equipment during rigging operations.
  • Maintain detailed records of rigging activities, equipment usage, and any incidents or near misses.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections to ensure machinery operates efficiently and reliably.
  • Diagnose mechanical issues and troubleshoot problems to minimize downtime.
  • Dismantle machinery and equipment for repairs or upgrades and reassemble them after completion.
  • Refer difficulties to leader or supervisor.
  • May be assigned to carry out tasks, not specifically listed, within the scope and skill level of this job description in support of department objectives and to develop individuals' skills.
  • May be required to train for, obtain and maintain licenses, operator permits and certifications within assigned area.
