About The Position

The Maintenance Mechanic operates under the general supervision of the Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Supervisor. This role is responsible for maintaining production equipment at maximum uptime and ensuring all machinery is in safe, reliable working condition. Strong troubleshooting abilities and mechanical aptitude are essential. Maintenance Mechanic Level IV employees must demonstrate journey-level mechanical proficiency.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated journey-level mechanical skills and strong troubleshooting ability
  • Minimum of five (5) years of industrial maintenance experience
  • Ability to read and interpret ladder diagrams
  • Ability to obtain and pass RETA CARO certification (Certified Ammonia Refrigeration Operator) certification test.

  • Post-secondary education in industrial maintenance, electronics, hydraulics, or PLCs preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform hands-on daily operations and scheduled preventive maintenance (PMs) on: Ammonia refrigeration systems (compressors, vessels, piping, SRVs, and related components), HVAC systems (production and office areas), Steam boilers, vessels, piping, and valves, High-pressure air compressors and dryers, Condensers, cooling towers, and air handling systems, Glycol systems, High-voltage electrical distribution systems and switchgear, Wastewater systems, including lift stations, valves, and piping, Water softening systems and controls, Well water systems, including pumps and control vessels, Fire protection systems (diesel fire pump, hydrants, and controls), Facility lighting and parking/drive surface maintenance.
  • Obtain and maintain RETA membership and complete required ammonia training, including CARO (NH₃) certification.
  • Maintain, test, and troubleshoot production equipment, including pumps, motors, separators, evaporators, conveyors, elevators, and ultrafiltration systems.
  • Maintain and repair plant utility systems, including hydraulics, boilers, heat exchangers, compressors, dryers, pumps, seals, gearboxes, conveyors, CIP systems, ammonia systems, and perform various welding techniques (MIG, TIG, ARC, high-pressure, and sanitary).
  • Fabricate parts and piping as needed.
  • Repair and troubleshoot electrical motors, control systems, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
  • Complete preventive maintenance tasks according to schedule and accurately document work using Service Repair Orders (SROs), including: Parts used, Work performed, Name and signature, Labor time.
  • Document all unscheduled maintenance using SROs, including: Equipment identification, Description and reason for repair, SRO classification (PM, safety, enhancement, or service), Parts used and labor time, Name and signature.
  • Enter SROs electronically as required and maintain accurate records of parts used during annual overhauls.
  • Identify and record equipment numbers on all SRO documentation.
  • Perform electronic troubleshooting and maintenance tasks.
  • Report abnormal equipment conditions or parts needs to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Maintain daily pass-down logs.
  • Follow all safety policies, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Adhere to all hygiene and food safety standards.
  • Support contractors with installation or modification of equipment as directed.
  • Maintain professional conduct with customers, vendors, and visitors.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
