About The Position

The Lead Engineer's responsibility is to participate in the daily Engineering responsibilities and to assist the Engineering Managers with the day-to-day activities of the Department. This role involves aiding in the scheduling of preventive maintenance, weekend work, vacations, and engineer days off. The position also assists in the development and implementation of Engineering Training Programs and provides leadership in the absence of Engineering Managers. The Lead Engineer will continue to perform Engineer's duties on an as-needed basis, maintaining a high level of urgency in responding to trouble calls. This role ensures that all repairs and projects are completed through proper documentation of work orders and communicates vital information to various stakeholders including Production Associates, Production Managers, Engineering Managers, and Engineers. The Lead Engineer is responsible for ensuring startup and shutdown procedures are completed properly and in a timely manner, and communicates with fellow engineers during travel paths. Collaboration with the Engineering Parts Coordinator is essential to maintain an adequate inventory of parts, requiring the provision of descriptions, part numbers, quantities, and dates when needed. A strong emphasis is placed on promoting a safe and clean working environment by following 'clean as you go' procedures and adhering to all safety procedures and guidelines, including daily overhead walk-through inspections and high-pressure cylinder storage area inspections. The Lead Engineer will assist Engineering Managers in ensuring all 7I procedures are followed and completed in a timely manner. The role requires basic mechanical and electrical skills to assist or perform preventative and corrective tasks on process and facility equipment, along with knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and special equipment tools. Maintaining a high standard of personal integrity, honest communication, and respect for others is crucial. The position requires the ability to complete daily computer tasks to keep PM and work orders up-to-date, with accountability for the accuracy and clarity of documentation, parts, causes, and comments. This includes ensuring the operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance on engines, motors, pneumatics, hydraulics, electrical control systems, conveyor systems, and production machines. The Lead Engineer must be able to follow diagrams, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications to troubleshoot malfunctions. Punctuality and adherence to all safety policies, general manufacturing policies, and food safety guidelines are mandatory. As required, the role involves requisitioning repair parts for equipment and facility. The individual must be motivated to increase knowledge and gain experience in all aspects of the Maintenance field and will perform other duties as assigned by Management.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Basic mechanical and electrical skills to assist or perform preventative, corrective tasks on process and facility equipment.
Knowledgeable with the proper use of hand and power tools as well as all special equipment tools.
Ability to complete daily computer tasks required to keep PM and work orders up to date.
Individuals will be held accountable for accuracy and clarity of work completed documentation, parts, causes, comments, etc.
Ability to follow diagrams, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications to troubleshooting malfunctions.
Must be motivated to increase knowledge and to gain experience in all aspects of the Maintenance field.

Responsibilities

Participate in daily Engineering responsibilities and assist Engineering Managers with day-to-day activities.
Assist in the scheduling of preventive maintenance, weekend work, vacations, and days worked by Engineers.
Assist in the development and implementation of Engineering Training Programs.
Provide leadership when Engineering Managers are absent.
Perform Engineer's duties on an as-needed basis.
Maintain a high level of urgency in responding to all trouble calls.
Ensure all repairs and projects are completed through the documentation of work orders.
Communicate all vital information to Production Associates, Production Managers, Engineering Managers, and Engineers.
Ensure all startup and shutdown procedures are completed in a proper and timely manner.
Communicate with Engineering Managers, Production Managers, Production Associates, and fellow Engineers when performing travel paths.
Communicate with the Engineering Parts Coordinator to ensure an adequate inventory of parts is available.
Provide descriptions, part numbers, quantities, and dates when needed for parts.
Promote a safe and clean working environment by following clean as you go procedures.
Attend and participate in meetings pertaining to department goals, safety, staff, and scheduling.
Ensure all safety procedures and guidelines are properly adhered to, including daily overhead walk-through inspections and high-pressure cylinder storage area inspections.
Assist Engineering Managers in assuring that all 7I procedures are followed and completed in a timely manner.
Assist or perform preventative and corrective tasks on process and facility equipment.
Maintain a high standard of personal integrity and conduct.
Complete daily computer tasks required to keep PM and work orders up to date.
Ensure operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatics, hydraulics, electrical control systems, conveyor systems, and production machines.
Troubleshoot malfunctions by following diagrams, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications.
Be punctual and adhere to all safety policies, general manufacturing policies, and food safety guidelines.
Requisition repair parts for equipment and facility as required.
Complete assigned tasks in a safe and timely fashion.
Increase knowledge and gain experience in all aspects of the Maintenance field.
Perform other duties as assigned by Management.
