About The Position

Perform skilled work in the checking, inspecting, repair, maintenance, installation and construction of plant equipment and apparatus. This role involves diagnosing trouble, dismantling, overhauling, reassembling, installing, and repairing various plant equipment such as boilers, pulverizers, generators, turbines, valves, electric motors, pumps, and compressors. The position also includes fabricating and installing pipe and fittings, inspecting and repairing insulation, using monitoring equipment for diagnostics and balancing, performing general machine work, and various types of welding and brazing. Additionally, the role requires assisting with electrical equipment, obtaining work permits, performing carpentry, masonry, and painting tasks, maintaining a clean work area, operating mobile and automotive equipment, performing rigging and blocking, inspecting and preparing plant systems for operation, and assisting with isolation and tagging of equipment. The Maintenance Mechanic Jr. is expected to follow operating instructions and safety regulations, prepare records, assist in training other employees, report irregularities, and train for emergency response assignments.

Requirements

  • Two year Associate degree in engineering technology, industrial technology, energy technology or equivalent.
  • 2- years of military experience or an Associate's degree outside this field plus the following: Must have performed the duties of and met all qualifications (including completion of all job demos) of Equipment Operator Jr. (in-the-maintenance-line-of-progression) and the Maintenance Mechanic Jr. positions
  • Must be able to pass an examination, if required.
  • Normally achieved with 2080 hours as a Maintenance Mechanic-Jr or equivalent.
  • Must have a thorough and working knowledge of the layout, construction and functions of the equipment & apparatus in and about the plant, plant maintenance, materials, practices, tools, rigging, scaffolding and blocking involved in the work.
  • Must be able to read, interpret and work from complex prints and specifications.
  • Must have a thorough working knowledge of equipment procedures and the rules, safety practices & procedures applicable to the work.
  • Must have demonstrated the ability to lead and direct and coordinate work.
  • Must possess the appropriate State driver license and obtain and maintain all necessary certifications and licenses as required.
  • Candidates are required to complete an online pre-employment assessment and achieve a "recommended" result.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose trouble, dismantle, overhaul, reassemble, install, and repair plant equipment.
  • Fabricate and install pipe and fittings to specifications.
  • Inspect, repair, or install insulation and covering.
  • Use monitoring equipment for diagnostics and balancing.
  • Perform general machine work.
  • Perform electric arc and oxyacetylene welding, brazing, and soldering.
  • Assist in dismantling, overhauling, reassembling, and installing electrical equipment.
  • Obtain permits and ensure equipment is properly cleared and tagged before work.
  • Perform carpentry, masonry, and painting work, including scaffolding and building repairs.
  • Maintain equipment, tools, and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Operate and maintain mobile and automotive equipment.
  • Perform rigging and blocking.
  • Inspect, check, and prepare plant systems and equipment for start-up and shutdown.
  • Perform local operations to place equipment in service.
  • Perform auxiliary switching as required.
  • Assist in isolating equipment and placing clearance tags.
  • Perform duties in accordance with operating instructions, safety regulations, and current practices.
  • Prepare and maintain records as required.
  • Assist, instruct, and help train other employees.
  • Report irregularities and abnormal conditions to supervision.
  • Train for and carry out assignments in fire-fighting, first aid, and other emergency response programs.
