About The Position

Responsible for all routine and preventative maintenance duties for all campus locations related to basic trades such as carpentry, plumbing, and basic electrician work. A hospital maintenance mechanic is responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing, and inspecting mechanical equipment and electrical systems.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
  • 2+ years’ experience in working in a Healthcare setting.
  • 2+ years of mechanical, technical and computer experience required.
  • Excellent organization, written and oral communication skills.
  • Some experience with operations and maintenance of building mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, computer software required.
  • Some knowledge with reading blueprints, schematic diagrams, and equipment manuals required.
  • Some knowledge of air quality, OSHA, hazardous materials and other related environmental issues that could affect health care facilities required.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required in accordance with DH’s Driver Disqualifications Guidelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Obtain ASHE Health Care Physical Environment Worker Certification within 90 days of hire.
  • MECH Certification required within 1 year of hire.
  • Obtain OSHA 10 within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Inspecting equipment and facilities for proper operation and working conditions.
  • Maintaining routine equipment inspections and repairs as necessary.
  • Reporting more serious problems to their shop leadership for further instructions or maintenance scheduling.
  • Ongoing facility maintenance and completing repairs on equipment, plumbing, heating and wiring.
  • Troubleshooting machinery and performing routine preventative maintenance.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety procedures and regulations.
  • Inspecting buildings to confirm safety standards.
  • Performing routine preventative maintenance and repairs on a wide variety of facility equipment.
  • Evaluating and making recommendations to supervisor regarding the condition of equipment that may need to be repaired or replaced to prevent costly downtime in the future.
  • Reporting any unsafe situations or practices to the supervisor.
  • Evaluating the nature of reported problems, determining the most effective method for corrective measures, affecting the needed corrections, providing necessary follow-up, and completing all required documentation.
  • Responding to fire alarms and resetting the system.
  • Responding to the loss of electrical power, water, medical air, and medical vacuum and other life safety equipment.
  • Investigating complaints and observations regarding poor or damaged equipment and attempting to remedy the problem while providing the necessary documentation to keep equipment histories current.
  • Making recommendations to department leadership on spare equipment to have available to ensure prompt completion of work orders and preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Evaluating effectiveness of day-to-day workflows and reporting back to department leadership any recommendations.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe working environment at all times.
  • Participating in on-call rotation support.
  • Performing other duties as required or assigned.
