About The Position

The Maintenance Mechanic I provides a safe and comfortable environment for all patients, visitors and staff. As a member of a team of health care Facility Services personnel, a Maintenance Mechanic I maintains all equipment, buildings and grounds in good operating condition. Ensures accuracy and completeness of work orders, and follows up as needed. The Maintenance Mechanic I behaves in a manner consistent with the standards and ethics of all health care support personnel.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • General maintenance abilities.
  • Valid North Carolina Drivers license.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to communicate appropriately with staff of varied skill levels and expertise
  • Responsible for completing work orders issued by departments in a timely manner with proper documentation.
  • Take call on a regular basis.
  • Assist with the Operation, maintenance and repairs of: Air compressor and vacuum systems, HVAC systems including air-handling systems, heat pumps and reheat systems, Chilled water systems, condenser water systems and cooling towers, Domestic water systems, Fire tube boilers and all associated equipment
  • Operates emergency diesel generators to maintain emergency load.
  • Maintains, tests, and repairs patient transport equipment.
  • Maintains and tests vertical transport systems.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs patient room equipment (e.g. beds, over bed tables, nurse calls, TVS, etc.)
  • Maintains, tests, and repairs general equipment (e.g. shredders, carts, furniture, etc.)
  • Maintains lighting fixtures including lamp replacement.
  • Assembles and transports materials, furnishings, and equipment.
  • Operates tools, test equipment, vehicles, etc. necessary to perform duties and responsibilities
  • Assist with new construction and renovation projects.
  • Perform calculations pertaining to job.
  • Uses department scripts to effectively communicate with other departments, patients, families, coworkers and students in person or over the phone
  • Participates in In-service Education.
  • Serve on a Staff Action Team of your choosing.
  • Uses Safety Behaviors to provide safe patient care.
  • Participates in disaster/emergency drills as required, responds to emergencies throughout the hospital.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
  • Demonstrates safe operation of equipment in compliance with department policy, safety, disinfection, infection control and quality control standards
  • Know basic regulations and codes which pertain to Fire Safety, Disaster Plan, and Bomb Threats within the facility.
