Maintenance Mechanic/Filter Technician

About The Position

Changes filters for a broad range of HVAC systems, including operating a box truck in congested areas of campus, maintaining the filter warehouse, planning monthly and daily filter needs, and properly handling a high volume of clean and dirty filters. The position takes the lead in modifying established schedules when environmental conditions, such as pollen or construction dust, or other issues arise. It documents activities according to university requirements, performs preventive maintenance checks and cleans HVAC equipment, and troubleshoots and repairs HVAC equipment while assisting higher-level mechanics and technicians with complex issues. The position is expected to demonstrate Facilities Services’ TOP SERVICES values and contribute to UNC’s safety culture by always considering safety first. A $4,081 sign-on bonus is available to the successful applicant, paid in two installments within 12 months of hire.

Requirements

Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver’s License or be able to obtain one before the hire date.

Responsibilities

Change filters for a broad range of HVAC systems.

Document activities according to university requirements.
Perform preventive maintenance checks, including adjusting drive belt tension.
Clean HVAC equipment, including air handlers, exhaust fans, pumps, and air compressors.
Troubleshoot and repair HVAC equipment.
Assist higher-level mechanics and technicians with complex issues.
Demonstrate Facilities Services’ TOP SERVICES values and contribute to UNC’s safety culture.
