About The Position

This is an "Open Competitive Opportunity" for a Maintenance Mechanic – Electrical position at Tacachale in Gainesville, FL. The Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) supports people with developmental disabilities in living, learning, and working in their communities. This role is part of the APD’s TACACHALE team, aiming to make a difference in the lives of developmentally disabled adults. The salary range is $34,760.00 - $38,236.00 Annually or $1,336.92 - $1,470.62 Biweekly. The hiring salary may exceed the maximum posted salary. Future vacancies may be filled from this advertisement for up to six months, and the posting may close prior to the closing date.

Requirements

  • A valid Florida Driver’s License. Corrective Lenses Restricted license are acceptable provided the driver wears the corrective lenses while operating a state vehicle.
  • Must be willing to perform essential services before, during, and after an emergency.
  • Must be willing to work beyond the normal work schedule to maintain minimum coverage levels and meet the needs of the Agency.
  • Must be able to climb a ladder and/or work from flights of stairs.
  • Must be able to work near loud noises and electrical equipment.
  • Must be able to work in tight spaces and/or on rooftops.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs with or without accommodation.
  • Must be able to exert up to 30 pounds of force frequently.
  • Must be able to walk, stand, bend, climb, for prolonged periods of time.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, benefits, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the appropriate tools to construct objects, structures, and buildings.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures that are required in maintenance and repair work.
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematic drawings.
  • Ability to perform a variety of skilled trade functions.
  • Ability to pay attention to details.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to take accurate measurements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Replace blown light bulbs, light switches, wall outlets, ceiling light fixtures, ballasts, worn-out sockets, and electrical cords and plugs on equipment.
  • Replace batteries in automatic door openers.
  • Clean light fixtures and check electrical motors for proper operation.
  • Ensure circuit breakers are functioning properly.
  • Maintain and repair exit lights and emergency auxiliary lights.
  • Operate hand and power tools associated with the electrical trade and gather needed materials for each job.
  • Maintain, repair, and replace electrical systems associated with lighting, outlets, and power to building equipment such as fans, A/C units, kitchen equipment, and similar electrical components.
  • Assist with maintenance and repair of exterior and street lighting.
  • Locate and correct power failures, short circuits, or similar electrical issues.
  • Identify conditions requiring additional repair or escalation.
  • Upon completion of the job or at the end of the day, ensure that no hazardous condition exists, clean up all trash and debris, no slippery surfaces or open holes in pathways, and no exposed electrical components or hot electrical surfaces.
