About The Position

The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Maintenance Mechanic 4 - HVAC at the Stafford Creek Corrections Center in Aberdeen, Washington. Stafford Creek Corrections Center is a 1,936-bed multi-custody facility located five miles west of Aberdeen, on the southern Washington Coast. The facility includes seven living units for medium and minimum long-term custody Incarcerated Individuals and a restrictive housing unit for maximum-custody Incarcerated Individuals. SCCC was Washington State's first tobacco-free facility for both staff and Incarcerated Individuals. Requirements

Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanic trade AND five years of experience as a journey-level worker in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work and HVAC.
Washington State Journeyman Electrical License is required if supervising Incarcerated individuals in the performance of electrical work.
Must possess an HVAC Technician Certification EPA Clean Air Section 608 type: Universal.

Nice To Haves

Vocational technical apprentice is preferred in refrigeration.
WA State EL06 or less restrictive electrical license is preferred.
Position typically requires high school diploma and six (6) months of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work.
Knowledge of arc welding, Heli arc and all types of welding.
Experience as a first line supervisor.
Repair and service of refrigeration units.

Responsibilities

Direct, supervise and train a crew of Incarcerated Individual workers engaged in the performance of skilled electrical and mechanical work on the maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, refrigeration, kitchen appliances, electronic controls, natural gas equipment and other systems and mechanical equipment as needed.
Ensure that all safety and security procedures are followed, including confined spaces, PPE, lockout tagout, and other relevant manufacturer, OSHA, and DOC safety and security procedures and policy.
Ensure all tool and key accountability policies and procedures are adhered to. Perform daily tool counts and maintain tool and key logs.
Operate computer, controllers, and system tools and use telephones and radios.
Supervise a work crew of Incarcerated Individuals.
Hire, train, and schedule Incarcerated work crews and assign work.
Ensure Incarcerated Individuals on assigned work crew have adequate safety and equipment training.
Encourage positive development of Incarcerated Individuals and their knowledge and ability to perform trade work.
Evaluate incarcerated workers’ performance and progress.
Use radios, phones, computers to ensure safety and security of incarcerated workers, co-workers, and the facility.
Conduct a preventive maintenance program for assigned machinery and equipment throughout the facility.
Ensure facility doors, gates, kitchen equipment, laundry equipment, pumps and air compressors are maintained and serviced in compliance with manufacturer and regulatory requirements.
Ensure facility equipment and machinery is being serviced on a regular preventative maintenance schedule.
Prioritize repairs and maintenance work to be completed based upon urgency, impact, and facility need.
Design and layout various fabrications, including gate assemblies, sheet metal ducts, and other parts and equipment in order to repair facility equipment.
Design and supervise the manufacture of various specialty parts for facility equipment which cannot be purchased.
Order sufficient required materials to accomplish assigned tasks.
Perform general maintenance, repairs, fabrication, welding, and machinist work.
Perform routine and non-routine inspections of facility mechanical equipment, machinery, HVAC/R systems, and specific apparatus to determine the need for repair or maintenance.
Update inspection and maintenance programs, SOPs, and manuals to meet current safety requirements as needed.
Provide daily documentation of work performed including necessary records of Incarcerated Individuals hours, performance, and safety training.
Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, supplies, orders, materials, tools, schedules, blueprints, diagrams, manuals, maintenance logs, safety logs.
Use a computer to complete reports, enter and research data, order supplies.
Other duties as assigned by Supervisor, Plant Manager or Facility Manager.
Assisting staff in other departments or facilities.
