About The Position

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is seeking a skilled and experienced Maintenance Mechanic 3 to join their team in Vancouver, WA. This role is for a journey-level member of the Southwest Region, responsible for keeping WSDOT facilities, buildings, and equipment operating safely and efficiently across the region. The position involves performing a variety of repair and preventive maintenance activities on diverse facilities and systems, including rest areas and radio sites. The mechanic will also have opportunities to perform work across multiple trades and tackle various maintenance challenges. The work directly supports WSDOT’s mission and commitment to a strong Culture of Safety.

Requirements

Demonstrated journey-level knowledge and application of a recognized construction or mechanical trade, such as plumbing, carpentry, building maintenance, or a closely related trade, gained through a recognized apprenticeship program, journey-level trade status, or progressively responsible experience as a supervised helper or trainee.
Demonstrated ability to perform skilled maintenance, repair, and modification of building facilities, mechanical equipment, plumbing systems, structures, and related components using appropriate tools, equipment, materials, and work practices.
Ability to independently assess building and utility system issues, determine appropriate repair or modification needs, develop an approach, and safely complete or coordinate the work.
Demonstrated ability to establish, perform, and document preventive maintenance activities across multiple facility systems to maintain reliable operations, identify potential issues, and reduce unplanned equipment failures or service interruptions.
Demonstrated understanding of how structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and drainage systems interact within building and facility operations and how work performed on one system may affect other components.
Ability to safely perform skilled maintenance and repair activities while following applicable safety requirements, procedures, and industry practices.

A valid driver’s license and the ability to operate state-owned vehicles.
Class A CDL without air brakes restriction (Must be obtained within 12 months)
Ability to maneuver and transport various materials and/or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

Demonstrated knowledge of building operations, facility systems, and maintenance practices, as demonstrated through Building Operators Certification (BOC) Level 1 or 2 , or equivalent education, training, or experience.
Demonstrated foundational knowledge and application of a recognized construction or mechanical trade through successful completion of a recognized trades apprenticeship program or equivalent training and experience.
Demonstrated ability to use basic computer applications and electronic systems to complete routine work activities, including email, internet research, data entry, electronic records, and other computer-based tasks.

Responsibilities

Independently make repairs and perform preventive maintenance to building structures to include roofing repairs, plumbing repairs, carpentry, window replacement, overhead doors, etc.
Make repairs and modifications to potable and non-potable water systems, water/sewage systems and hot water systems.
Repair and replace plumbing, piping, fixtures and related mechanical devices.
Perform drainage system maintenance, oil/water separator, drainage swales and ponds.
Maintenance of fire alarm systems, security systems, and power gate systems region wide.
