About The Position

The purpose of the 2nd class mechanic is to perform as a professional, highly skilled and exceptionally competent maintenance person. Participates in teams to develop and implement solutions.

  • Basic ability and knowledge of welding practices and hydraulic circuitry
  • Advanced understanding of electrical circuitry
  • Basic PLC knowledge
  • Must have the ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Flair for working with large industrial machines
  • Must be able to work independently or in a team atmosphere with minimal direct supervision with drive toward accomplishment, and to produce high quality work
  • Must remain drug free
  • Ability to work in wet environments: including head and feet
  • Ability to wear applicable PPE for up to 12 hours
  • Ability to distinguish colors and shading
  • Ability to become certified to operate a forklift
  • Prolonged sitting, standing, or walking for 8 – 12 hour shifts
  • Bending and twisting; repetitive movements
  • Able to do repetitive hand, arm, leg movements for up to 12 hours
  • Must be able to squat, bend at the waist and knees freely
  • Be able to climb up to three floors or stairs, use full upper body movement for process; stand up to 12 hours with breaks

  • Must be able to work flexible rotating shift schedules – mandatory overtime as required

Nice To Haves

  • Manufacturing or process related experience preferred
  • Preferably five (5) years in a related maintenance trade or occupation that involved electrical, hydraulic machinery and equipment in a manufacturing environment

Responsibilities

  • Perform plant and environmental safety duties, including adhering to safety requirements, taking ownership of safe work practices, reporting accidents and near misses, participating in safety programs, reducing environmental impact, complying with plant rules, performing cleanup duties, communicating safety concerns, and inspecting vehicles.
  • Participate in plant TPM initiatives, completing TPM tasks, understanding equipment through TPM methodology, identifying and developing expertise in learning opportunities, utilizing Focus Improvement tools, working towards zero injuries, defects, and losses, and maintaining DM and Step Boards.
  • Perform maintenance tasks including understanding and utilizing Energy Control Procedures (ECPs) and Lock Tag Try (LTT) systems, computer literacy (email, spreadsheets, word documents), safe rigging procedures, forklift operation, intermediate PLC troubleshooting, intermediate troubleshooting to find root causes, understanding manufacturing processes and customer needs, understanding World Class Manufacturing (WCM) concepts, installing and modifying plant equipment, reading blueprints and technical data, using hand and power tools, inspecting equipment for potential problems, maintaining good housekeeping, following environmental compliance policies, and working with outside contractors.
  • Perform mechanical tasks including basic machining, precision shaft alignment, understanding lubrication principles and bearing tolerances, understanding hydraulic systems and flow principles, understanding compressed air and steam systems, understanding pump operating characteristics, tracking conveyor belts, reading air and power fluid schematics, performing structural and piping welding, pipefitting, understanding electrical components (solenoids, motors, heaters, contacts, photoeyes), and ultrasonic rotating equipment troubleshooting.
  • Perform electrical tasks including understanding industrial electrical code, reading schematics and P&ID drawings, understanding fusing, thermal overload protection, wire sizing, and motor theory, troubleshooting AC/DC and Servo drive systems, troubleshooting motor control and power circuits, troubleshooting AC/DC variable frequency drives, understanding control loops, and performing electrical noise avoidance.
  • Understand, troubleshoot, and tune burner systems.
  • Demonstrate effective communication, support training and development of colleagues, show flexibility to changing priorities, proactively identify and participate in learning opportunities, follow standard operating procedures, make decisions and know the chain of command, attend work regularly, and rotate shifts.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned or needed.
