The Washington State Department of Corrections is seeking a safety-first individual to join the Reynolds Reentry Center in the vital role of Maintenance Mechanic. The goal of the Maintenance Mechanic is to perform journey-level maintenance, repair, remodeling, and construction work across a variety of building systems, facilities, and grounds at the Reentry Center. The Maintenance Mechanic works independently while applying expertise across multiple skilled trades to ensure the facility remains safe, functional, and well maintained. This includes maintaining and repairing building structures, roofing, walkways, driveways, roads, concrete and masonry, painting, cabinetry, furniture, HVAC and refrigeration systems, vehicles, and mechanical equipment. The position utilizes knowledge and skills in multiple trades, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, welding, and general mechanical repair, to diagnose and resolve maintenance issues while completing preventative maintenance and responding to facility repair needs. In addition to maintenance responsibilities, the Maintenance Mechanic provides oversight and direction to assigned individuals performing light maintenance tasks such as painting, floor refinishing, landscaping, and general facility upkeep. The position promotes a safe, clean, and functional environment for residents, staff, and visitors while ensuring compliance with applicable safety standards. This position is essential to maintaining comfortable living conditions for residents and safe working conditions for staff. By ensuring the facility operates efficiently and reliably, the Maintenance Mechanic directly supports the Reentry Center’s mission of helping individuals successfully transition back into the community. Through maintaining the physical environment and mentoring assigned individuals in basic maintenance tasks, this role contributes to positive life changes, successful reentry outcomes, and enhanced public safety.
