About The Position

Under the supervision of the Region Construction & Maintenance Supervisor, this position serves as a member of the Eastern Region maintenance team in the maintenance and construction of planned, preventative and deferred maintenance projects throughout the Eastern Region. The Maintenance Mechanic 1 is responsible for coordinating and performing new construction, renovation, remodel, repair, inspection, and maintenance of State Park buildings, facilities, grounds, equipment, and vehicles. This position is not eligible to telework, as physical on-site presence is required to perform essential functions. An ideal maintenance mechanic for Washington State Parks region Construction & Maintenance crew based in East Wenatchee is a multi-talented and proactive individual, dedicated to preserving the natural and historical integrity of the parks. This candidate possesses strong mechanical skills across multiple trades, including carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work, to handle a diverse range of maintenance, repair, and construction projects across multiple park properties. An outstanding team player with excellent communication skills, this individual works effectively with a cohesive crew and demonstrates initiative in prioritizing tasks to keep all projects running smoothly. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work.
  • Valid unrestricted (except corrective lenses) driver's license.
  • First Aid & CPR certification must be obtained within 12 months of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working at State Parks or similar parks and recreation entity.
  • Entry level experience driving and operating a variety of vehicles and equipment.
  • Experience leading and/or supervising lower-level staff.
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of Microsoft Office products, such as Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Knowledge and experience working with various hand & power tools.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general work in maintenance, repair, remodel, and alteration in construction and maintenance of area facilities, grounds, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance to park buildings and other park facilities.
  • Maintain and repair irrigation, plumbing, and sewage systems with the ability to provide minor electrical repairs.
  • Coordinate with management, other employees, volunteers, and correctional crews during maintenance and repair projects.
  • Maintain health and safety standards.
