About The Position

The Maintenance Mechanic Level 1 role involves observing and listening to mechanical devices to locate trouble, dismantling devices to access and remove defective parts, and inspecting used parts to determine dimensional requirements. The position requires adjusting functional parts, repairing or replacing defective parts, and installing special functional and structural parts. Responsibilities also include lubricating and cleaning parts, testing device performance, and operating metalworking tools to make and repair parts. The role involves movement and positioning of heavy equipment with mechanical assistance, pushing toolboxes, and carrying/lifting parts. Continuous use of hand tools is required, ranging from small screwdrivers to large pipe wrenches, demanding both fine dexterity and physical force. Additional duties include plant startup and shutdown tasks, energizing equipment, ensuring proper operation, cleaning machines for painting, and oiling/greasing machinery. The position also entails installing power supply wiring and conduit for new machines, connecting power and communication cables, and diagnosing/repairing electrical apparatus like transformers, motors, relays, switches, and printed circuit boards. Maintenance of electric motors, including bearing replacement and rewiring, is necessary. Planning and installing wiring layouts and conduits in buildings are also part of the job scope. Mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment are diagnosed and repaired or replaced as needed. The role requires utilizing a computer system for work order entry and tracking completion status, initiating purchase orders for parts and machines, and keeping supervisors informed of any problems or unusual situations. Other duties may be assigned by supervision.
