About The Position

The position of Maintenance Mechanic 1/C is responsible for maintaining and repairing PATCO’s fleet of vehicles and equipment. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to maintaining all mechanical facilities of PATCO.

Requirements

  • Must be able to pass a drug and alcohol test and a background check.
  • Must be able to pass a proficiency examination that addresses all of the required knowledge.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), preferably from a vocational school.
  • Five (5) years of mechanic experience with experience in auto/truck/heavy equipment AND/OR ten (10) years’ experience in structural/mechanical maintenance of bridges, tunnels, buildings and related mechanical facilities and systems.
  • One (1) year of experience with troubleshooting and diagnosing problems as well as repairs related to vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Must be able to proficiently read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, and repair manuals.
  • Must be proficient in computer skills including creating of word documents, spreadsheets, and database management.
  • Must be able to pass a proficiency examination that addresses all of the required knowledge, skills and abilities as described.
  • Must be able to operate all PATCO vehicles and equipment.
  • Must be able to work a variety of schedules, including evening, night or weekend work and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to organize and analyze complex and diverse information and use same to resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Willingness to pursue training and development opportunities in order to continuously build knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to manage difficult customer situations and respond promptly to customer needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Diesel mechanic experience.
  • Certified/licensed crane operator in New Jersey.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and performs repairs and preventive maintenance on the vehicle fleet for all PATCO Departments including all vehicles, snow removal equipment, track equipment, motorized grounds equipment, custodial equipment, power tools and other small equipment.
  • Maintains and repairs heavy equipment including specialized track equipment, hi-rail vehicles, rail bound and all-terrain cranes, and rubber tire loaders.
  • Prepares work orders, documents maintenance and repairs, and maintains the database for the Authority’s Fleet Maintenance System.
  • Orders parts and maintains part inventories and supplies.
  • Operates snow removal equipment and performs snow shoveling/pushing functions for all PATCO facilities as necessary.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of all mechanical systems and equipment including pumps, sanitary ejectors, steam heating components, restroom facilities, air compressors, subway drainage systems, and rail lubricators.
  • Operates/pilots maintenance of way equipment on the mainline or yard tracks.
  • Inputs data, prepares work orders, and generates monthly reports to track parts and repairs through the Authority’s MaintStar vehicle information and data system.
  • Operates automotive shop equipment including hydraulic lifts, tire machines, front-end alignments, tire balances, etc.
  • Responsible for ordering parts, supplies, and services from various vendors in accordance with PATCO purchasing policies.
  • Assures PATCO facilities and infrastructures are maintained in an orderly condition in accordance with PATCO standards.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe and secure work environment by participating in required training, recognizing and reporting hazards and suspicious activity, and using all required personal protective equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
