About The Position

Full-time position available on or after July 13, 2026 for Building Maintenance. This position’s responsibilities are carried out under general direction. The Incumbent is responsible for independently perform a variety of skilled preventive and general maintenance, repair, construction, and renovation work on facilities and systems at both Stanislaus State’s Turlock and Stockton campuses. The Facilities Maintenance Mechanic is distinguished from the Facilities Worker classifications by the independent performance of skilled, journey-level trade work, particularly in the electro-mechanical trades.

Requirements

  • Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience leading to journey-level skills in a mechanical or facilities/building trade, or any equivalent combination of training and experience as a facilities and systems mechanic which demonstrates the achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of an applicable apprenticeship program.
  • Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the position.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Four (4) years of directly related experience.
  • Prior experience in a CSU or higher education setting.
  • Experience performing maintenance and repair on HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems, including low voltage systems.
  • Experience performing multi-trade building work, including carpentry, drywall, ceilings, and general facilities renovation.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance and responding to routine maintenance and service requests.
  • Experience estimating materials, labor, and time requirements for maintenance and renovation work.
  • Experience prioritizing work and requisitioning or coordinating materials and supplies.
  • Experience providing instruction or direction to unskilled or semi-skilled assistants on maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, test, install, and perform skilled maintenance and repair of HVAC and plumbing systems.
  • Perform electrical maintenance and repair work, including troubleshooting and work on low voltage control systems.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure reliable operation of facilities equipment and systems.
  • Respond to routine maintenance and service requests and evaluate system issues.
  • Perform a wide range of skilled facilities renovation, maintenance, and repair work across multiple trades.
  • Repair and maintain building components including walkways, walls, doors, tile, furniture, and hardware.
  • Construct minor structures, including foundation work, framing, roofing, and interior/exterior walls and ceilings.
  • Installing insulation, hang drywall, and perform taping and finishing.
  • Install and repair suspended ceiling systems.
  • Perform welding to repair, fabricate, and construct parts.
  • Estimate materials, labor, and time requirements for maintenance and renovation work.
  • Determine priorities for requisitioning materials and supplies based on job needs.
  • Provide instruction and direction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants as needed.
  • May be required to obtain additional training and/or certification as part of professional development, based on department and/or campus needs, to stay current with industry standards.
  • At the direction of appropriate administrator, may provide support to other areas as needed.
