About IPSD Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Caterpillar’s company strategy includes sustainability as one of four focus areas and IPSD is engaged and actively preparing green energy solutions for the future. Role Definition We are seeking a Maintenance Manager. This person will monitor and improve the maintenance of the production unit by overseeing maintenance staff and equipment; ensures employees comply with safety procedures and standard.

Requirements

  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment. Level Working Knowledge: Applies an assigned technique for critical thinking in a decision-making process. Identifies, obtains, and organizes relevant data and ideas. Participates in documenting data, ideas, players, stakeholders, and processes. Recognizes, clarifies, and prioritizes concerns. Assists in assessing risks, benefits, and consideration of alternatives.
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. Level Working Knowledge: Delivers helpful feedback that focuses on behaviors without offending the recipient. Listens to feedback without defensiveness and uses it for own communication effectiveness. Makes oral presentations and writes reports needed for own work. Avoids technical jargon when inappropriate. Looks for and considers non-verbal cues from individuals and groups.
  • Planning and Organizing: Knowledge of the process of planning and arranging tasks and resources; ability to plan and organize both time and resources to get things completed while structuring and maintaining work in a systematic and highly methodical way. Level Working Knowledge: Raises awareness of potential bottlenecks and disruptions to the schedule. Breaks tasks into manageable steps that can be incorporated into a personal work plan. Escalates concerns over competing or conflicting priorities. Monitors progress continuously and adjusts tactics for handling situations on a case by case basis. Creates action plans that ensure the accomplishment of responsibilities.
  • Total Productive Maintenance (TPM): Knowledge of total productive maintenance principles, methods, and processes; ability to maximize machinery effectiveness through active involvement of all supporting departments. Level Basic Understanding: Describes the maintenance indicators associated with Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). Explains the history, concept, and objectives of TPM. Identifies the pillars of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM). Outlines the similarities and differences between Total Quality Management (TQM) and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).

Responsibilities

  • Creating work plans for staff and contractors; reviewing the maintenance work performed by technicians.
  • Making purchasing decisions and recommendations regarding equipment and tools; training the workers periodically on various maintenance processes and techniques.
  • Monitoring the maintenance budget; identifying cost-effective alternatives for current maintenance activities.
  • Tracking daily inventories, inspecting production units for wear and tear; ensuring replacements are made on time.
  • Coaching and mentoring teams in order to encourage, motivate, and guide individuals in learning and improving effectiveness.
