About The Position

The Maintenance Manager is accountable for the reliability, safety, and performance of all manufacturing assets at Timberlab’s Cross Laminated Timber mill. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, this role leads maintenance strategy, execution, and continuous improvement to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted production while controlling costs and developing high performing teams. This position is a key driver of Timberlab’s reliability culture. The Maintenance Manager applies disciplined maintenance systems, root cause analysis, and modern reliability tools to maximize asset uptime, extend equipment life, and proactively prevent downtime. The role requires strong leadership in a unionized, industrial manufacturing environment and close collaboration with operations, safety, engineering, and external partners.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years of management experience in maintenance or operations leadership roles.
  • 10+ years of supervisory experience in industrial manufacturing environments, preferably unionized.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining complex industrial equipment and systems.
  • Experience in pulp and paper, wood products, or similar heavy industrial environments strongly preferred.
  • Strong reliability engineering and root cause problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to translate strategic direction into executable maintenance plans.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly.
  • Proven capability in conflict resolution and labor‑management collaboration.
  • Strong financial, organizational, and analytical skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (industrial, mechanical, electrical, pulp and paper, or related field) preferred.
  • Maintenance and reliability certifications (e.g., CMRP) are preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and continuously improve equipment reliability to support production goals and stable operations.
  • Drive root cause analysis (RCA) for equipment failures using structured tools such as FMEA and failure elimination methodologies.
  • Implement preventive and predictive maintenance strategies that reduce unplanned downtime and improve asset life.
  • Leverage modern maintenance technologies and data to identify risks, trends, and improvement opportunities proactively.
  • Develop and execute maintenance strategies aligned with business objectives, safety standards, and sustainability commitments.
  • Establish long‑term maintenance plans to support equipment longevity, reliability, and future operational needs.
  • Balance short‑term maintenance execution with long‑term strategic planning and capital support.
  • Ensure maintenance systems, work practices, and standards are consistently applied.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a skilled team of maintenance professionals.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, continuous learning, and operational excellence.
  • Support workforce capability development, succession planning, and continuous skill advancement.
  • Promote collaboration between maintenance, operations, and other plant functions.
  • Develop, manage, and optimize the maintenance budget with a focus on cost‑effectiveness, reliability, and safety.
  • Conduct cost analysis to identify savings opportunities without compromising equipment performance or compliance.
  • Manage contractor resources, materials, and spare parts strategies effectively.
  • Establish and track maintenance KPIs to measure reliability, cost, safety, and execution effectiveness.
  • Use data and performance metrics to support decision‑making and prioritize improvement actions.
  • Continuously assess maintenance performance and implement targeted improvements.
  • Ensure maintenance activities comply with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Champion safe work practices across maintenance and operations.
  • Build strong working relationships with internal partners and external vendors to align objectives and deliver results.
  • Collaborate effectively across departments in a unionized manufacturing environment.
