About The Position

Mercer Celgar, a leader in the global pulp industry, is offering an exceptional opportunity for a committed, safety-focused individual to join our team as the Manager of Maintenance. As the Maintenance Manager at Mercer Celgar, located in the beautiful town of Castlegar, BC, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring our pulp mill's continuous and efficient operation. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the overall reliability of our equipment and systems, ultimately contributing to achieving our production goals while inspiring teams and managing costs effectively.

Requirements

  • Maintenance Management Professional, Certified Reliability Leader or similar designations preferred
  • Diploma in mechanical engineering or interprovincial trade certificate.
  • Minimum 5 years of managerial experience in maintenance or operations management.
  • Ability to interpret high-level strategies and translate them into actionable objectives.
  • Minimum 10 years of supervisory experience, including management experience in industrial, unionized environments.
  • Expertise in managing diverse teams and ensuring the smooth operation of complex machinery, ideally within pulp and paper or related industries.
  • Substantial industry experience to lead maintenance operations.
  • Knowledge of the pulp mill industry's unique challenges and opportunities to guide equipment reliability and sustainability strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Leading and managing all aspects of the Maintenance department to ensure efficient, reliable, and sustainable operations.
  • Overseeing Mercer Celgar’s maintenance activities.
  • Planning and budgeting maintenance work and maintenance projects.
  • Overseeing the maintenance resources with a focus on costs, efficiency and time on tools.
  • Maintaining and improving the mill reliability.
  • Focus on preventive maintenance to detect and resolve problems before they arise.
  • Working with contractors as appropriate, but maintaining the priority for using own resources as stipulated by the collective agreement.
  • Continuous competence development of workers and supervisors, not only in the subject matters, but also in safety, leadership and desirable personal skills.
