About The Position

Amgen is seeking a Maintenance Manager Instrumentation to lead a team of maintenance and instrumentation technicians in support of production equipment maintenance activities at their manufacturing site in Holly Springs. This role is part of Amgen's newest and most advanced drug substance manufacturing plant, the FleX Batch facility, which combines the latest in disposable technologies with traditional stainless-steel equipment. The facility integrates sustainability innovations to reduce carbon and waste, aligning with Amgen's plan to be a carbon-neutral company by 2027. The position involves a 12-hour rotating shift to ensure 24/7 coverage.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree OR Masters degree and 3 years of maintenance and/or operations/maintenance experience OR Associate’s degree and 5 years of maintenance and/or operations/maintenance experience OR Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of maintenance and/or operations/maintenance experience OR High school diploma / GDE and 12 years of maintenance and/or operations/maintenance experience.
  • Previous managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation of resources. Managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in life science, technical or aligned field of study
  • 6+ years of relevant work experience in operations/manufacturing environment
  • 3+ years of experience with regulated environments (i.e. cGMP, OSHA, EPA)
  • Managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams
  • Experience working with ATO GMP F&E clients and systems (Bulk Manufacturing, Filling and Packaging, Supply Chain, Quality Labs, Small Molecule Manufacturing)
  • In-depth technical knowledge of GMP equipment and instrumentation
  • Experience supporting GMP capital project execution and verification activities
  • Demonstrated leadership attributes as an individual contributor (e.g., leadership of initiatives or participation on network level or continuous improvement teams)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in process improvement methodologies
  • Leverage a strong background in GMP Maintenance combined with excellent leadership and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to support multiple clients and prioritize resources against competing objectives
  • Troubleshooting, problem-solving and investigational skills related to electro-mechanical equipment and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and technical expertise to a team of 6 to 12 maintenance staff with minimal direction.
  • Provide field support to troubleshoot, identify, and resolve sophisticated equipment maintenance issues.
  • Ensure performance standards are established and consistently enforced.
  • Ensure work activities are completed correctly and with a high right-first-time completion rate.
  • Ensure activities are accomplished in a safe manner and that resource utilization and staff efficiency are enhanced.
  • Ensure work is completed with minimal disruption to site operations and manage activities to eliminate waste and ensure appropriate cost of maintenance.
  • Ensure work is completed in accordance with procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, recommend solutions, and manage their implementation.
  • Foster an environment of continuous improvement and excellence.
  • Communicate with key customers and support groups.
  • Ensure schedule-breaking activities and flow interrupters are identified and addressed.
  • Manage maintenance service providers in a safe, compliant, and cost-effective manner.
  • Develop and manage small improvement projects, including driving the use of predictive analytics tools.
  • Be routinely present in the field to observe staff and activities, remove obstacles, and identify/implement opportunities for improvement.
  • Assess skills and capabilities of the team and ensure appropriate staff development occurs.
  • Provide support, which may be outside of normal working hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
