About The Position

The Maintenance Machinist performs repairs to parts and machines using a variety of tools. This position also helps build spare parts for machines and supports the creation of new parts in collaboration with other team members. This role involves operating fabrication equipment while ensuring quality standards and maintaining a safe working environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 years of related experience or training in a maintenance or fabrication role.
  • Knowledge and skill required to use lathes, mills, and other machine shop equipment to make machine repairs.
  • Knowledge of basic mechanics, welding techniques, and capable of utilizing standard shop equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude. Able to troubleshoot and repair processing and packaging equipment.
  • Proficiency with measuring tools such as calipers, tape measure, and micrometer.
  • Strong time management, communication, teamwork, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and written, with internal staff and management. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Must be able to demonstrate practical problem solving and trouble shooting skills. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical degree in a relevant field of study.
  • CNC machining experience.
  • Welding certification.
  • CAD software experience (e.g., AutoCAD).
  • GMP environment experience.
  • Heavy equipment operation experience (e.g., forklift, boom lift, scissor lift).
  • Rigging and fall protection training.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs on parts and equipment that require fabrication, including welding and/or machining.
  • Participate in troubleshooting equipment issues.
  • Fabricate spare parts according to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) specifications.
  • Fabricate new parts and/or components in collaboration with other maintenance team members and/or engineering.
  • Organize and maintain cleanliness of the fabrication shop including maintaining machinist tools and equipment.
  • Submit requests for ordering fabrication supplies.
  • Assemble and test operating machines to verify correction of malfunction.
  • Perform MIG, TIG, or stick welding as needed.
  • Follow workplace and local safety guidelines/regulations.
