About The Position

As a Maintenance Lead, you are the maintenance leader for your assigned shift. You are responsible for overseeing all plant equipment and assigned technicians during your shift. You should lead by example and participate in the Repair/Install and Maintain Plant Equipment, complete required Predictive Maintenance activities on a routine schedule, and always strive to prevent unplanned breakdowns. This position is officially classified as “Reliability Lead” under the collective bargaining agreement.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
Electrical/Mechanical background necessary
Above average computer skills including MS Word & MS Excel
Multi-craft/multi-skilled with expertise in electrical, electrical controls, mechanical, pneumatics, hydraulics and fabrication.
Working and practical knowledge of plant utility systems, (including boiler systems, compressed air systems, water filtration, waste water treatment) and Refrigeration systems.
Working knowledge of PLC’s, VFD’s, Servo’s and plant automation systems.
Working knowledge of National, State, Local building codes, OSHA and standard industry safety rules/regulations.
Ability to read and interpret work orders, safety rules, mechanical and electrical drawings, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Ability to fill out routine reports, correspondence documents and to speak effectively when conveying information to other employees.
Good oral/written communication skills and possess tact.
Working knowledge of computer system input, retrieval and use or the ability to learn in a reasonable training period.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, percentages and generate and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form with several abstract and concrete variables.
Safety Awareness – Ability to identify and correct conditions that affect employee and equipment safety.
Shop tools and equipment including: power hand tools, fabrication equipment etc.
Measuring instruments including: calipers, micrometers etc.
Analytical instruments including: multi meters, oscilloscopes etc.
Powered Industrial Vehicles including forklifts, aerial lifts, floor scrubbers, etc.
Office machinery including: computers, printers, fax machines, copiers, telephones, etc.
While performing duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit, talk and/or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop; kneel; crouch; crawl; taste and/or smell.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10-20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25-40 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

Apprenticeship program or technical background preferred
3-5 years of experience with computerized CMMS work order system preferred
Previous experience with industrial controls using Allen Bradley control platforms, Motor Controls (Servo and VFD) a definite plus

Responsibilities

Compile and send out the Maintenance EOS reports.
Follow the appropriate escalation plan for plant issues to ensure proper communication and support.
Train and develop assigned maintenance technicians as well as yourself.
Report/follow up on incidents (safety, quality, equipment, etc.).
Coordinate and lead all maintenance type work during your designated shift.
Delegate tasks to assigned technicians in completing repair and maintenance work.
Meet with oncoming Maintenance Team Lead at shift change to perform a GIMBA/safety walk of the plant to identify and correct any issues remaining from the off-going shift (CLEANLINESS, QUALITY, EQUIPMENT ISSUES, PARTS, ETC.).
Direct the development of employees on the team.
Observe the daily and past manufacturing process and communicate and/or implement improvements to the operation.
Follow Horizon Organic guidelines for Good Manufacturing Practices when performing the requirements of Reliability Lead.
Visually inspect the manufacturing line and communicate deficiencies with operations and maintenance. Schedule those improvements and then complete them.
Complete work orders as assigned and write new work orders as you identify equipment deficiencies.
Participate and help others and demonstrate the Horizon Organic values of respect and support.
Attend maintenance DDS meetings, SME or Focus Equipment meetings and mechanic to mechanic shift hand-offs.
Review log books from previous shifts both in operations and maintenance and note equipment needs for shift leads to help with.
Locate and identify spare parts by using the CMMS system in the store room and make recommendations to stock spare parts and inventory levels.
Perform lubrication on equipment following the plant lubrication standards and monitor lubrication practices of others, offering training etc. to ensure the equipment receives proper lubrication.
Participate in the development of PM’s by suggesting new tasks, changes, and hours to complete those tasks to the planner and team leader.
Develop BDA’s with robust action plans and then complete those plans. Follow up and participate on other BDA’s being handled by other Techs that have an impact on your assigned line.
Contribute by participating with the AM team and performing tasks.
Correct unsafe and quality issues and conditions ASAP and monitor these logs to ensure completion progress is timely.
Install, examine, inspect, maintain and repair machinery, equipment, physical structures, PLC & PID controllers, pipe, and electrical systems and train other technicians.
Troubleshoot any mechanical or electrical problems using PLC, ladder diagrams, schematics, PID and/or CMMS and train other technicians.
Cycle equipment or system to ensure safe and correct operation, to be able to improve efficiency and effectiveness, quality and safety.
Set up and safely operate machine tools such as lathe, grinder, drill press and milling machine to repair or fabricate parts as needed.
Maintain maintenance area in a clean and orderly fashion; always keeping work area clean.
Operate a forklift and other heavy machinery whenever it is applicable.
Assist if necessary in preparation of the weekly maintenance work schedule in conjunction with the Maintenance management, staff and Operations.
Provide insight on the scope of all corrective work orders and orders for parts and materials to ensure the job is completed in a timely manner.
Assist the Maintenance Planner, Team Leader or Buyer and Peers with accomplishing the tasks at hand in a timely manner.
Work with Operations, and Maintenance management to identify areas of opportunity to schedule work during periods of downtime.
Participate in weekly, bi-weekly and monthly Predictive Maintenance functions such as vibration analysis, Infrared Scans & oil analysis to prevent unplanned breakdowns.
Prepare reports for the Maintenance team as necessary for compliance and budgetary requirements.
Support the plant’s efforts for continuous improvements.
Assist with maintenance activities as needed but not limited to PM’s and repairs.
