Let’s build a Seattle that works for everyone together! Position Overview: SDOT has an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Laborer on our Maintenance team within the MOD Division. These experienced professionals will perform structural concrete repair work such as breaking out, removing, and replacing concrete on roadways, ADA ramps, sidewalks, and curbs. You will also be part of a skilled snow and ice team helping keep the city of Seattle mobile. Come help keep Seattle moving!

Requirements

  • One year of experience performing general laboring/manual work involving the construction, installation, repair, and maintenance of public facilities.
  • Combinations of education, training, and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability.
  • Current Washington State driver's license.
  • Flagger certified (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date).

Nice To Haves

  • One-year experience in concrete construction.
  • Experience working in a multi-cultural workplace with a diverse customer base.
  • Ability to obtain a flagger card within 6 months.
  • Knowledge of the Right of Way Restoration Rules (ROWRR)
  • Knowledge of the in-street manual
  • Knowledge of cross slopes for sidewalks and ADA Ramps
  • Understanding of SDOT Safety Policy

Responsibilities

  • Able to rake, shovel rock and lift heavy objects.
  • Assist operators on breakouts and grading.
  • Respond to voids around the city.
  • Knowledgeable of setting up traffic control plans, emergency response, comfortable driving in snow and ice.
  • Backfills utility cuts in streets and sidewalks; prepares subgrade for concrete.
  • Establishes line and grade and does rough and final grading, sidewalks, driveways, and curbs, including measuring, laying out, cutting, joining, and constructing of wooden forms.
  • Calculates and procures materials needed to perform tasks.
  • Support department goals in promoting diversity and social justice.
  • Assists a variety of skilled trade personnel in coordinating and performing skilled work; will also assist in the maintenance, repair, and construction and in preparing walks and streets for asphalt and concrete paving operations.
  • Documents materials used, employee timesheets, and job square footage limits.
  • May plan, or assist in planning for materials, equipment, and staffing required for work assignments or areas.
  • Drives pick-up trucks and other motorized vehicles or equipment in connection with work activities, drives snowplow and sander in winter conditions.
  • Maintains routine records and reports.
  • Performs other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned and lower-level duties of Utility Laborer and Laborer.
  • Responds to all emergencies around the city when necessary.
