About The Position

This position is responsible to complete center and office repairs, maintenance, and new construction as needed. Possess basic carpentry, electrical and plumbing skills to complete the repairs. Able to communicate with vendors and Center Managers with regards to center repairs and maintenance. Inspire Development Centers provides Early Childhood Education (ECE) and social services to more than 4000 children, in center based and home based setting, at more than 25 Child Development Centers (CDC) throughout the State of Washington. Inspire provides services under various federal and state funded programs with differing regulations and stipulations, which must be coordinated and adhered to, including, but not limited to: Regional Head Start (RHS), Migrant Seasonal Head Start (MSHS), Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP) and Early Head Start (EHS). The agency is required to meet an annual quota of non-federal share (in-kind) funds. A large majority of children’s first language is Spanish.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English and/or Spanish to fulfill the responsibilities of this position;
  • Three (3) years of actual experience in areas of carpentry and plumbing, working knowledge of Uniform Building Codes (UBC) and background in maintenance cleaning and repair procedures;
  • Experience in construction and/or facilities maintenance;
  • Familiar with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations;
  • Familiar with federal assurance regarding construction initiatives;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills;
  • Understanding of the interrelationships between services and systems;
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral directions and have knowledge of carpentry procedures without constant supervision;
  • Ability to learn new tasks quickly and efficiently;
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to gather and analyze data for reports via multiple modes;
  • Ability to read, write and interpret blue prints and documentation;
  • Strong customer service focus;
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse employee population;
  • Knowledge of personal computer, including Microsoft Office.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license;
  • Must provide a yearly driving abstract;
  • Must maintain acceptable driving history;
  • Proof of automobile insurance;
  • Ability to travel to perform job duties and responsibilities;
  • Must pass initial and periodic criminal and background check;
  • Must pass initial and periodic employee health clearance; (present it within forty-five (45) days of employment);
  • Current First Aid / CPR cards; (obtain the training within thirty (30) days of employment);
  • Subject to initial and periodic TB screen;
  • Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV / AIDS) training, (obtain the training within thirty (30) days of employment);
  • Blood Borne Pathogen training; (obtain the training within thirty (30) days of employment);
  • Subject to random drug screen;
  • Must sign a Confidentiality Agreement;
  • Must complete and sign a Conflict of Interest Disclosure Statement on an annual basis.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop and bend, occurrence is frequent;
  • Ability to climb and crawl, occurrence is frequent;
  • Ability and knowledgeable in the use of standard construction equipment, and carpentry tools, occurrence frequent;
  • Ability to handle hazardous materials safely and tolerate exposure to minor electrical hazards;
  • Ability to safely handle environmental hazards such as molds and various solvents;
  • Ability to communicate in person, or via telephone or video conference, occurrence is frequent;
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds, occurrence is frequent;
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to one hundred (100) pounds, occurrence is occasional;
  • Ability to travel, locally and statewide, occurrence is frequent;
  • Ability to read and write, occurrence is frequent;
  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle, feel or move objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, occurrence is frequent;
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus, occurrence is frequent;

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Head Start experience.
  • English/Spanish bi-lingual fluency.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, constructs, remodels, retrofits and repairs interior and exterior structures made of wood, drywall, plaster, concrete or brick.
  • Constructs, repairs and retrofits exterior play structures, playground landscaping and related items.
  • Responsible for the construction and repair of ramps, stairs, fences, floors, windows, roofs, interior/exterior walls, exterior modular skirting, and other related items.
  • Responsible for completing minor electrical repairs, including but not limited to; light fixtures, switches, receptacles, etc.
  • Responsible for the installation, replacement and repair of plumbing fixtures, including but not limited to; sinks, faucets, toilets, water lines, drains, and sewer lines.
  • Assist in estimating material and labor needs as required for completion of projects.
  • Assist providing basic work drawing to scale if needed for the purpose of obtaining a building work permit.
  • May need to assist other subcontractors and other co-workers for other work needed for the job. Able to communicate with supplier(s) and vendor(s) for the purpose of purchasing construction materials.
  • Shows interest in furthering professional growth by attending staff meetings, workshops, trainings, classes and seminars.
  • Maintain confidentiality of program, vender, contractors and client related information at all times.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by his/her supervisor.
