About The Position

The Maintenance Helper is responsible for the upkeep of the facility and provides support to the Maintenance Department as directed. This role maintains the exterior aesthetics, safety, and functionality of the site. Duties include weed control, debris removal, parking lot cleaning, seasonal tasks, and ensuring compliance with safety standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong work ethic; ability to learn quickly and work collaboratively.
  • Must be available for on-call work, overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Requires the ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods; perform repetitive movements; and use hands and body for various physical tasks, including lifting 50+ lbs.
  • Work may involve confined spaces, heights, low-light conditions, and exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, and noise.
  • Must be able to safely climb ladders, wear required PPE, and maintain physical strength and coordination.
  • Strong communication skills, basic English literacy (preferred), and the ability to follow directions and work effectively in a team are essential.
  • Reliable attendance is required.

Nice To Haves

  • 1–2 years of experience in a food manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
  • Experience in industrial cleaning and/or facility maintenance preferred.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to use cleaning equipment and understand chemical safety protocols.
  • Certifications are a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a “safety first” culture by following all safety rules (including Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, Fall Protection, and Hazard Communication).
  • Report all near misses, injuries, and incidents to the Shift or Production Supervisor.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with Quality and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) policies and procedures.
  • Provide timely support to maintain GMP and PRP compliance by addressing facility and equipment findings from inspections and audits, and escalating issues that cannot be resolved in-house for timely resolution.
  • Basic knowledge of Preventive Maintenance (PMs).
  • Perform painting, including preparation, application, and maintenance.
  • Maintain site cleanliness by removing litter, leaves, and debris from sidewalks, parking lots, fence lines, and loading docks.
  • Perform minor repairs (e.g., fences, flooring, signage, basic cement work, drinking water systems).
  • Conduct operational maintenance tasks such as restroom repairs, light bulb replacement, and HVAC/air handler filter maintenance.
  • Complete corrective work orders as assigned.
  • Follow plant programs and procedures (GMPs, LOTO, Confined Space, Fall Protection) and support safe practices among team members.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Provide clear shift handoffs and communicate effectively with employees, supervisors, and managers.
  • Report all near misses, property damage, and injuries to appropriate personnel.
  • Operate equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts, and telehandlers.
  • Maintain housekeeping, organization, and proper care of tools and equipment.
  • Inspect safety equipment (fire extinguishers, ladders, eyewash stations, hose reels, etc.).
  • Maintain quality standards and safe work practices.
  • Communicate effectively with other departments regarding work areas and tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
