About The Position

Journeys In Community Living, a nonprofit organization supporting people with disabilities in Murfreesboro, is seeking a contracted maintenance handyman to perform a variety of repair and maintenance tasks in residential homes and on equipment. The work is as needed, with availability Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The handyman will address plumbing, general electrical, HVAC, and carpentry issues; paint and perform general upkeep; maintain appliances; install fixtures; conduct walk-through assessments; respond to service requests; and help ensure safety and compliance with regulations.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a handyman or in a related maintenance field.
• General knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
• Proficiency with a variety of hand and power tools.
• Good problem-solving and organizational skills.
• Attention to detail and effective communication skills.
• Valid Tennessee Driver’s License.
• Successful clearance of a background check.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs involving plumbing, electrical, and HVAC problems.
• Conduct carpentry work, including painting, installing shelves, and repairing doors and windows.
• Maintain and repair appliances.
• Perform general building maintenance, including cleaning, replacing light bulbs, and minor remodeling.
• Install fixtures such as lights, ceiling fans, and toilets.
• Conduct walk-through assessments and identify areas needing repair.
• Manage and maintain tools and equipment used for tasks.
• Follow workplace health and safety rules and report hazards.
• Respond to service requests and help ensure safety and compliance with regulations.
