About The Position

This position is responsible for assisting the Supervisor in coordination of the daily responsibilities of the department by ensuring the Supervisor’s instructions are communicated to the team members and carried out timely and correctly. This position is also responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing all equipment and company assets while maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to Tyson policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Twelve months of continuous employment with a single employer within the last 36 months of employment or completion or verifiable formal schooling in specific trade.
  • Minimum of 12 months experience fabrication and mechanical work.
  • Must be flexible as hours may vary.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly via telephone, in person, and in writing.
  • Must be able to repair transmission components and systems.
  • Must be proficient in using equipment such as lathe, milling machine, shears, brakes.
  • Electrical knowledge is required to perform simple trouble shooting of electrical / ARC welding components.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram and schedule form.
  • Working knowledge of basic pipe fitting skills and sheet metal techniques.
  • Basic math skills and the ability to compute ratio, rate, and percentages.
  • Must be proficient with standard hand tools.
  • Required to pass a Tyson Basic Safety Test.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work without supervision.
  • Must be available to work weekends.
  • Must be able to perform the essential job functions.
  • All applicants must provide their government identification number so the system can verify any previous Tyson employment history.
  • This facility will not accept applicants that have worked for Tyson Foods 3 or more times.
  • This facility accepts rehires after 180 days.
  • Tyson reserves the right to require longer waiting periods or not accept rehires based on the reason for dismissal.

Nice To Haves

  • Welding, boiler, and electrical experience preferred.
  • Mechanical background helpful.
  • Knowledge of boilers and steam components helpful.
  • Welding and gas cutting skills helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Maintenance Supervisor in organizing and directing the work of the maintenance mechanics.
  • Performs all duties of processing mechanics.
  • Operates machine shop equipment such as the lathe, milling machine, shears, and brakes, and welding to fabricate chutes chain guards and processing equipment components or other plant needs.
  • Diagnosis and repairs mechanical problems related to processing equipment.
  • Performs simple troubleshooting of electrical components.
  • Is responsible for preventive maintenance on processing equipment as assigned and maintains records of work.
  • Other duties as assigned.
