About The Position

Under general supervision of the Precinct Foreman, is responsible for assisting the Precinct Foreman in supervising the operations of county-wide road and drainage improvement. Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Graduation from High School or General Education Development (GED) certificate
• At least six (6) years progressively responsible experience in road maintenance and construction
• Including two (2) year lead or supervisory capacity
• Considerable knowledge of road repairs and maintenance
• Considerable knowledge of all road construction tools and equipment
• Good knowledge of safety standard and practices.
• Skill in the operation of all related tools and equipment
• Skill in mathematical and general engineering functions.
• Ability to perform a variety of road repair and maintenance functions, including the operation of heavy road construction equipment and machinery
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and writing
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, department heads, County employees, outside agencies/vendors and the general public.
• Minimum Texas Class B Commercial driver's license (CDL) with a tank and air brakes endorsement.

Nice To Haves

• Hazardous Material Endorsements are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervises work crews in the completion of road construction and drainage projects on a county-wide basis.
• Plans and organizes the daily work activities for the crews.
• Calculates estimates for materials quantities and costs
• Operates light to heavy road construction equipment as necessary to complete road and drainage projects.
• Assist in maintaining equipment and machinery in safe operating condition
• Required to be on call and/or on-duty to assist the community in preparing, responding and recovering from severe weather events.
• Performs related duties as required.
