About The Position

Responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising maintenance personnel and activities to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of facilities, equipment, and infrastructure. Oversees preventative and corrective maintenance programs, promotes workplace safety, and ensures compliance with organizational standards and regulatory requirements. Lead and direct maintenance operations by supervising skilled trades personnel, prioritizing work assignments, and managing maintenance schedules to maximize equipment reliability, operational efficiency, and workforce productivity while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and quality.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in building, facilities, construction, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or equipment maintenance
  • Two (2) years of lead worker, crew leader, or supervisory experience
  • Principles, practices, methods, and materials used in building, grounds, facility, and equipment maintenance.
  • Preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs and procedures.
  • Construction, repair, and maintenance of buildings, mechanical systems, electrical systems, plumbing systems, and related infrastructure.
  • Operation and maintenance, and repair of tools, equipment, vehicles, and machinery used in maintenance work.
  • Supervisory principles, including work planning, scheduling, delegation, performance management, and employee development.
  • Occupational safety and health regulations, including OSHA standards, hazard recognition, accident prevention, and safe work practices.
  • Applicable building codes, fire codes, environmental regulations and maintenance related laws and standards.
  • Methods for inspecting facilities, equipment, and completed work for quality, safety, and compliance.
  • Principles of project planning, work order management, and resource allocation.
  • Planning, organizing, prioritizing, and assigning maintenance work to meet operational deadlines.
  • Supervising, leading, motivating, and evaluating maintenance personnel.
  • Inspecting facilities, equipment, and completed work to ensure quality and compliance with standards.
  • Diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving maintenance and operational problems.
  • Performing and overseeing preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Reading, interpreting, and applying blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, specifications, and maintenance manuals.
  • Operating and maintaining maintenance tools, equipment, vehicles, and machinery safely and effectively.
  • Coordinating multiple projects, work orders, and maintenance activities simultaneously.
  • Estimating labor, materials, equipment, and time requirements for maintenance projects.
  • Plan, organize, coordinate, and direct the work of maintenance personnel to achieve operational goals and project deadlines.
  • Lead and supervise diverse maintenance crews while promoting teamwork, accountability, and productivity.
  • Analyze maintenance issues, identify root causes, and develop effective solutions in a timely manner.
  • Make sound decisions and exercise independent judgment in routine and emergency situations.
  • Prioritize multiple assignments, projects, and competing demands while maintaining quality standards.
  • Interpret and apply policies, procedures, technical specifications, regulations, and safety requirements.
  • Inspect facilities, equipment, and work performed to ensure compliance with established standards.
  • Estimate project requirements, allocate resources, and manage workloads efficiently.
  • Ability to speak Navajo.
  • Familiarity with Navajo cultural/traditional practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Facilities Maintenance, Industrial Maintenance, Construction Management, Electrical Technology, Mechanical Systems, or a related field.
  • Seven (7) or more years of maintenance experience in a commercial, industrial, institutional, government, or public works environment.
  • Applicable certifications (OSHA certs, HAZWOPER certs, first aid, CPR, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Determines workloads and schedules, develops, interprets and implements policies and procedures, evaluates staff and makes hiring and termination recommendations and ensures that staff are trained in maintenance activities and are following standard operating procedures.
  • Monitors and participates in operations of assigned tasks including inspecting, developing and implementing modifications and ensuring each technician's work includes safe work practices and quality workmanship.
  • Answers questions and provides information related to projects, including resolving problems, handling complaints, and providing technical expertise as needed.
  • Interacts professionally with the public, vendors, and college staff, maintains effective working relationships and works in cooperation with the management team to effectively meet departmental objectives.
  • Provides input on the ordering of materials and supplies, assists in the monitoring and tracking of materials and supplies to ensure inventory is maintained.
  • Assists in the selection of staff, performs periodic evaluations of subordinates, and recommends and implements discipline as required.
  • Ensures that safety training is provided to staff and that proper safety practices are followed.
  • May perform a variety of field maintenance tasks, depending upon experience and level of certification.
  • Prepares and maintains records related to work performed and materials and supplies used, enters data into computer for further reporting.
  • Inspects campus facilities at the beginning of each work week to determine scheduling of technicians.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
